is Hawaii safe? that’s a great question. with all the news going on about the volcanic eruption happening on the Big Island, i would freak out too. people cancelling their vacations, people saying it’s dangerous, and people even asking me if i’m ok.
first of all, the volcano is on the island of Hawaii, not Oahu. would i go to the island of Hawaii now? probably not because i wouldn’t want to get in anybody’s way. there are local people that are frantically trying to save their homes with helplessness. hot lava destroys everything in it’s path so all they can do is watch. it’s actually sad to see people losing their homes, people being told to evacuate, and people living a future with uncertainty. so no, now isn’t the right time to go there as a tourist just to take a selfie.
as for Oahu, nothing has changed. there are no effects from the volcano since we are so far away. and thankfully the trade winds actually push the volcanic ash into the Pacific Ocean. so yeah, Oahu is totally safe now.
there are a few active volcanos in Japan right now too but unless you’re not near it, you’re fine. same as Indonesia, Central America, and so many other countries in the world.
the world we live in will have freak incidents of nature just doing what it does. what can we do about it? absolutely nothing. you can’t run, and you can’t hide. when it happens, it will happen. anywhere, anytime, and without any warning. so my advice would be to live you’re life each day to the fullest. and if you’re thinking about canceling that trip to Oahu, i’ll ride that crystal Summer barrel for you because there are lots on the way…
