Surf Leash Review

Good to see surfers volunteering their time to keep Diamond Head clean.  They go there every weekend to groom the mountain.  I respect these guys a lot.

But some disrespectful person decided to throw away a bag full of rubbish there.  I heard the guys saying “lucky we didn’t catch him.”  That basically means that if they caught the guy who threw this rubbish there, they would probably push him off the cliff.  So would I.

I usually don’t do product reviews but thought this one was important.  I bought 3 Dakine John John comp leashes recently.  I tried all 3 of them and all 3 of them get tangled around my leg.  As a surfer, that’s a terrible feeling of popping up and your leash is tangled around you leg.  It’s a distraction, and now this is going to be thrown away.  My advice to my students has always been “if your leash gets tangled, get rid of it.”

Survival of the Fittest

This morning was really hard to surf.  Strong onshore winds, head high sets, strong current, and wave after wave.  You had to go through 50 waves just to get out to catch a set.  Maybe that’s why nobody was out?

Sekine-san took the challenge and succeeded.  This was probably the most he had to paddle in his life.

A really cool surfer that never gives up.  Good job Sekine-san!
