If you ever surfed Yoyo’s on a very low tide before, you will know that there are 2 ways out to the lineup.  The safe way is paddling all the around on the far left which will take about 20 minutes.   The not so safe way is to walk over the reef and go straight out through the waves.  This is the way I always prefer because it’s the fastest and closest.  

Just a few reef cuts on the feet but once you stand up, you forget about it.  

And there are 2 ways to in.  One is to paddle all the way around which will take 20 minutes.  Or this super fast way which is to come in straight over the reef and walk.  Reef cuts, dings on boards, or broken fins are the risks so you have to be very careful.

Surfed 2 rounds today.  Everybody including myself thought it was going to be small and too high tide this morning.  When I got to Bowls at 6am, it was just that.  Then 7am came and everything changed.  The waves started pumping!  It turned out to be the best day in a while!  Perfect conditions and just a couple locals out.  We totally scored!

Then Hashimoto-san arrived this morning from Japan so we went for an afternoon surf.  Still uncrowded and perfect 3′ waves!

I just surfed with Hashimoto-san 2 months ago and he got bigger and stronger!  Today was the first time in his life he did off the lips.  Beautiful surfing!

When I first went to Bali 30 years ago, I think the exchange rate was like 6000IDR to 1USD.  Now it’s 15,920IDR to 1USD.  A very wise man told me 10 years ago that I should never invest in the Indonesia banking system because of inflation.  He said that no matter what interest the bank will give you, inflation will always be higher.  Thank goodness I listened to him because inflation is crazy in Indonesia and it’s not stopping anytime soon.  So even if you get this great exchange rate, you’re still paying a lot more for everything.  It didn’t make any sense 30 years ago but it sure does now.
