Grandpa Within Me

My dryer broke so before buying a new one, I thought of trying to fix it first.  I’ve never fixed a dryer before so it was a challenge.  I took the whole thing apart and started to troubleshoot the problem.

There are all kind of heating elements and sensors.  You need tools and a multimeter to test each one.  And when you find out the problem, you have to find the parts to replace it.

The parts came 2 days later.  Putting the dryer back together is like putting a puzzle together.  Kind of simple if you don’t forget a piece.  Haha.

After it was all together again, it was time to test it.  Before I turned it on, I made sure a fire extinguisher was in my hands just in case.

It’s pretty crazy that the dryer works better than it did before.  Now I can fix my dryer when ever it breaks.  So stoked!

Want to thank my Grandpa Osaki again for teaching me how to be a handyman.  When I was a little kid, he use to take me with him to fix his rental houses.  If it wasn’t for him, I’d be spending thousands of dollars paying people who sometimes don’t even show up.  My Grandpa built this house I live in with his bare hands 60 years ago. This photo was taken 30 years ago as he came to check up on me when I was changing my kitchen counter and sink.  The thing I mostly remember about Grandpa was he never ever yelled or scolded me.  He was a man I truly respected and never ever wanted to disappoint.  I miss you Grandpa…

Surf Trip Practice

Had a wonderful early morning session with Miyasaki-san.  Super cool surfer from Tokyo that often goes on surf trips.  This time it was Hawaii and I was happy to surf with him.  Check out this perfect style!

Waves were small but if you had the right board, it was pretty good.  Long rides to the wall.

I taught this girl how to surf on this same surfboard.  So today it was all about revisiting where you come from.  It turned out to be the greatest learning experience for her.  And also a very humbling one too.

Round 2 was at Dimaond Head.  She was the only one in that big ocean.  Opps, not the only one.  There were 4 whales jumping right outside of the breakers.  I ended up watching the whales more than her.  Haha.

Good to see Kimura san in Bali practicing for our next surf trip.  Next month we are going on a surf trip to a country we both love so much.  Surf, eat, laugh, and sleep.  Can’t wait!
