Opihi Picker

picking opihi is very therapeutic.  it’s almost like surfing because just like surfing, you’re laser focused.  when i surf, i don’t think about anything.  and when i pick opihi, i don’t think about anything too.  and the crazy thing is more people die picking opihi than surfing.  why?  because if there’s no big waves crashing against rocks, there’s no opihi.  it’s very risky and many people in Hawaii die from this.

i know a place where i can go and fill up a bag in 15 minutes.  and i only go alone…

if i can eat about 8-10 pieces a day, i’m the happiest man in the world.  i’d rather eat this than lobster.  it’s that good!!!

Part 2: The Mojo Island

a year later, i was invited to Mojo Island again and there was no way i was turning it down.   i was escorted to my room fronting the beach.  it was more like a house!  this island is a natural reserve so it’s filled with monkeys, deer, dragons, and many other wildlife.

my room was absolutely perfect.

we spent a lot of time in the ocean.  i learned how to sail for the first time!

and i spent a lot of time in my room.  sometimes too long because i was too scared to go outside.  i thought these monkeys were going to attack me.

but every evening, i made sure to watch the sunset from the beach.  i got the Mojo and i can’t wait to go back…
