Spearfish: Indonesia vs. Hawaii

a friend just called me yesterday and asked where’s a good spot to free dive in town.  i had to pause and think about it.  then i told him “i don’t know anymore.  the last few times i dove in town, i didn’t see any fish.”  i remember the days of an abundance of fish in town.  not anymore.  then i thought about the other side of the world.  i wonder if things there will become like Hawaii?  from lots of fish, to nothing.  a scary thought…

anyway, i’ll never forget this dive trip in West Sumatra, Indonesia.  i remember diving down deep with my little 90cm speargun, flowing with the strong current, and snapping my fingers to attract fish.  then in 2 dives, this was the result.  i was with my closest Japanese friends and you should have seen the barrels we got that evening and the birthday party we had that night.  that was one of the best days in my life…

Hawaii for the Rich Only???

ok, this is the one thing i don’t like about businesses.  when things are bad, you lower prices a little, and when things are good, you raise it extremely high.  so now that tourists are flocking back to Hawaii, a rental car costs $1,008 a day!!!  are you kidding me???

and look at Kauai!  $785/day rates.  ridiculous!  shame on you rental car companies!

and now that everybody can work from home from anywhere in the world, people are choosing Hawaii.  a normal medium size single family house now cost $920,000.  so a house my Grandpa bought for $10,000 now worth over $1,000,000!  he must have seen the future because there isn’t a better way to invest your hard earned money.  good job Grandpa!
