i couldn’t believe how good the waves were yesterday morning. so good that i was speeding down there on my skateboard. couldn’t wait to get out in the ocean.

stoked got to jump on the jet ski and shot from the best seat in the ocean.

magic island with concrete jungle in the back.

Gavin Sutherland caught some of the best waves in the morning.

Shinpei Horiguchi got some nice sets too.

some guys i haven’t seen in my life flying high.

Gavin again on a nice turn.

gosh, i love photos like this because you can see the total commitment behind this turn. full rail surfing.

Shinpei on another good one.

this kid Kejiro Nishi got so many nice rides too.

the kid was ripping!

one of the other competitors asked me “who is that kid in yellow?” i said “the next japanese sensation.”

Haa Aikau flying high.

Takayuki Wakita also caught some of the best waves of the day. just perfect surfing and advancing this morning.

the big wave smile. if you ever met Wakita, you will love this guy.

then i see this lady paddling a board out in the deep blue sea. reminded me that i still have another huge challenge i must complete. sweet molokai.
From the Water to Surfer
Sweet Home Surfing and Shooting!

went to Sweet Home Cafe last night and ate way too much. just couldn’t stop eating because it was so good. we were all full and if you could have seen my stomach, you would have laughed.

while most people sleep at night, i work at night. whether it’s responding to emails, planning new trips, or getting ready for a photo shoot. been doing this for 9 years straight every single night.

pulled up to the WSL contest this morning at 8:30am. i ended up being there till 5:40pm. all day in the raging sun.

got to shoot from the back of the jet ski so i took some amazing photos.

the first WSL ever on the south shore of oahu. a start to a great thing as the kids need points and money to make their pro surfing dreams come true.

Wakita was ripping today!

Shun surfed his heat perfectly too. big turns and big points. he advanced to round 3.

had a great day talking to family and friends. a great time to catch up on the surfing scene while supporting the kids. there is the Moniz camp.

Joshua Moniz coming back from a huge win. advancing to round 3 and looking very strong.

Isaiah’s heat was very slow. the tide turned and the waves stopped. poor kid couldn’t get a 2nd wave.

Seth had the last heat of the day. advanced to round 3 and looking strong too!

Seth getting coached by dad Tony, mom Tammy, coach Rainos, and the loudest one, me. haha.

stoked to see some of the japanese kids advancing too. Shun Murakami, Reo Inaba, and Kaishu Tanaka. cool and super good surfers.

after my long day, i almost fainted on the way back to my car riding the skateboard. just no power and felt like my body needed liquid and light food. got home and found Yamari and pocari sweat in my refrigerator! perfect!

then some deep fried tofu, miso soup, and rice. super healthy and i feel better already. tomorrow will be another long day down at the beach. see you down there. good night.
