i wouldn’t know what i’d do without my chickens. just laying perfect eggs every single day!

had a super good time with Matsuda-san and Hiroshi-san this morning. just watching them catching so many waves after waves. we scored again!
photo 3
the water was dirty again. one reason is because of the heavy rain in the mountains every night and morning. yuck!

i remember sitting at home on the 4th of july checking the waves. then the camera panned over waikiki and i was wondering why all the boats were out. oh yeah!!! the flotilla!!! 1 hour later, i was out there right in the middle of the party.
OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA
yes, it was definitely the place to be. thousands of people having an awesome time in the middle of the ocean. something you have to experience once in your lifetime. photo gallery coming up soon!

after work this morning, i met Josh and Seth down at the fishing store. just helping them pick up their last minute fishing supplies. i still can’t believe i’m not going with them on their first ever boat trip. in a way i’m bummed, but in a way i’m happy that they will have to figure things out on their own. it’s going to be an awesome experience for them. good luck boys!

i say this over and over but i’m so proud of these kids. just so kind, gentle, and respectful. true hawaiians!

as for me, one part of me wants to give up on fishing, and one part of me wants to catch an ahi first. indecisive? yes i am. here are some fishing lure heads i got from my brother.
IMG_7470
and all this time i’ve been trying to find old lures, used lures, or free lures. then it just hit me. “if i want to catch an ahi, shouldn’t i ask my friend Derek who has been catching ahi’s his whole life? or better yet, shouldn’t i ask him to make me magic lures?” i call him, meet him at the fishing store, he tells me what to buy, he takes it home, and rigs me up these magic lures. i pick it up the next morning and i want to try it! this is called “ahi fever!” haha.

Derek always does things perfectly. i’ve known him since middle school and when ever he starts things, he would always do it perfectly. i have a lot of confidence now and i can’t wait to get them in the water. thanks D!

Moniz Championship Party

IMG_7604
stoked for any kid from hawaii to go up to california and bring home the prestigious champion cup. stoked!
IMG_7605
last nights party was last minute like always. but when things come together, it comes together. my sisters friend donated 40lbs. of fresh tuna. so it was sashimi and poke all night long.
IMG_7608
heard chef Craig Sako stopped by earlier to prepare the fish. thanks Craig!
IMG_7615

IMG_7618

IMG_7632
Moniz style. everybody’s welcome here.
IMG_7623
yes, a full house of family and special friends. and of course, all surfers!
IMG_7626
i ate 3 full plates! and dessert after.
IMG_7619
i see my sister putting salt and pepper on the ahi belly. OMG, i ask “what are you doing!!!” it’s a hawaiian thing to grill the ahi belly. well, in japan, the o’toro is the best part of the tuna and also the most expensive. a japanese chef would have a heart attack if he seen that. haha. i stopped my sister before she salted the last piece of toro and we ate it sashimi style. oishikatta!
IMG_7616
no, this is not a surf shop. this is the Moniz quiver.
IMG_7617
7 surfers in the family needs a lot of boards.
IMG_7609
behing the scenes in the boys room. quite different than your typical teenager room.
IMG_7621
and Seth got the cover of the NSSA catalog for the last contest his older brother Josh just won. i wonder if Josh got pissed when he seen Seth on the cover and that’s what pushed him to win? i wouldn’t doubt it.
IMG_7637
kids are kids. all good kids no matter how good they surf. this is hawaii, this is aloha, and this is family.

Seth getting focused on his upcoming mentawai boat trip. i hope he spears the big one!
