the spicy ahi poke at my sisters house the other night was amazing. it was one of Craig Sako’s special creations that i always crave for.

this over hot rice? OMG! the best spicy ahi bowl on the island. and after eating all this free ahi recently i’ve been getting from so many friends, i still don’t know why i tried so hard to catch one. free is best. haha.

ever tried fresh hawaiian ono sashimi? the best! i love it!!! thanks Kyle for the photo.

look what happened to my brand new lure!!! shock! the ono has very sharp teeth so when he bit the lure, he ripped it up. now i have to beg Derek to fix it for me. i’m keeping this because maybe next year i might get the fever again.

after eating all the fresh fish recently, i wanted something meaty and tasty. so i ate sukiyaki for dinner with a side of my chickens fresh raw eggs. i’m surprised no restaurant in hawaii makes a good sukiyaki. so if you want good sukiyaki, you just have to make it at home.

and yes, i’m a free diver that hunts underwater. this tasty kumu costs twice per pound than ahi. can’t wait to get another one.

Seth in the middle and Kaulana on the right. i remember taking these 2 kids on my boat when they were little kids. at that time, Seth just started free diving and Kaulana wanted to try. it was rough that day and after an hour on the boat, Kaulana’s face started to turn purple. he started to get seasick. i thought that was so cute. a little boy trying his best to keep poised. i’m not that kind of nice uncle that will take a seasick kid back to the beach and the kids new that. so i look at Kaulana in the face and say “hey Kaulana, do you want to become a professional surfer?” he said “yes uncle.” then i said “ok, to become a successful pro surfer, you will have to go on boat trips. you must overcome the sea sicknesses. it will make you strong. so go jump in the water and you will feel better.” he looked at me with his purple face and said “ok uncle.” he jumped in the water, felt better, and survived a rough day out at sea. i’m sure he will never forget that day.
the funny thing is, Kaulana left yesterday on a 12 day indo boat trip with the boys. his mom was really worried but i told her “he’s a tough kid and will come home even tougher.” i’m stoked to see how far these kids have come in their lives. surf your dream kids!

photo
i’m not the only one with ahi fever! Satoko-san sent me her screen shot and i was laughing. sorry Satoko-san, but no ahi yet!

got up at 3am, loaded up the boat, and spent another long day in the ocean. watching the sunrise from the middle of the sea is amazing.
IMG_7681
the drivers seat! why would you want to be asleep at first light?
IMG_7691
Kyle and Brent is hooked on ahi fever too. i still don’t understand how we all went from free divers to fishermen? haha.
IMG_7689
no ahi, but we caught a big ono or sawara. i’m pretty happy with the results, BUT today was my last day i will spend trolling. i officially give up. to me, trolling around in the ocean for hours spending big $$$ on gas is a waste. it’s like throwing money into the ocean. a lot of my friends love it but it’s not for me. i rather free dive.

while i was washing Mayuki, Brent and Kyle were cutting and packing up the fish. perfect team work!
