for the past 10 years, Angela Maki Vernon has been working tirelessly on her awesome Oceans Love project. being inspired by her older brother who is handicap, Angela put her love and strength into helping other kids with disabilities. i remember about 7 years ago, Angela told me that her dream was to bring the kids to Hawaii. ever since then, she’s been striving toward that dream by spreading the word, getting sponsors and supporters, and by continuing to pour all her love into her dream. as years past, Ocean’s Love has gone from a little organization that has now transformed into a respectable NPO. this is a perfect example of how hard work and passion together can make any dream come true.
five kids that live in an handicap orphanage in yokohama were the lucky kids to come to hawaii this time. Angela wanted to share her lifestyle with them so surfing was on the menu. it was awesome to see the smiles on the kids faces. just pure excitement and smiles that only surfing can bring out. it was such an awesome experience for me. i learned so much yesterday and i hope to learn more about these kids tomorrow when we surf again. there were only 5 kids and the rest were volunteers. some coming all the way from japan and some from hawaii to share the aloha spirit. all amazing people!
it was the first time for Ocean’s Love in Hawaii and i’m sure it won’t be the last. thanks to all the sponsors and supporters that made this happen. hey Angela, good job girl! i’m so happy that your dream has finally come true. the love you give these kids is priceless. the smiles, the laughter, and the everlasting experience will be with these kids forever. you have made a difference in this world and everybody is super proud of you! keep on making these kids dreams come true!
Dreams in Hawaii
Oceans Love
today was another awesome day. Angela Vernon has been telling me about her dream for so many years. she wanted to bring Ocean’s Love to Hawaii and it finally happened! i couldn’t believe how happy the kids were to surf, and i couldn’t believe how many volunteers came out to help. it was such an awesome day and i’m super happy to have been part of something so special. i have to download more photos and will talk more about this awesome day tomorrow.
the sunset was amazing today. it was so good to finally see the sun peaking out of the clouds!
then some poke, corona, and friends. what an awesome evening.
my brother and his friend Rod have been working on Mayuki. the weather finally cooperated so they got a lot of things done today. they worked really hard, then it was hawaiian style pupu time. Hayato Maki and Hideyoshi Tanaka came by to join us for some beers. it was pretty cool hanging out with friends and talking story from afternoon to night.
and of course we had to take a test ride to see if everything was working ok. just a few more days and everything will be perfect! i can’t wait!
keep warm because today was pretty cold. the sun should be shining tomorrow and i hope to warm up my body. good night.
