wow, what awesome timing again. last week this storm wasn’t even here, now it is. this storm is forecasted to be right off taiwan, then hit the whole japan. for now, my plan is to surf taiwan, then chase the typhoon up to japan from behind. hopefully get some back swell somewhere. want to avoid the rain as much as possible because rain and high temperatures equals muggy and sweat.
just heard from Keith down in south taiwan that the waves from this new swell already came up today. and now my phone and emails are pouring in with reports from all over asia. this is my job, and this is an adventure. been doing this for 20 plus years and i’m super excited this time. surfing is my job, surfing is my life, and surfing is what i will do for the rest of my life. hope you are all getting some swell where ever you are. and to my friends in okinawa, shikoku, wakayama, shizuoka, shonan, chiba, tokyo, and everywhere else. i hope to see you sometime soon.

omg, i just landed in narita japan and the first thing i said when i got off the airplane was “HOT!!!!” every single passenger that came off said the same thing “atsui, atsui, atsui!” have 2 hours so will be walking around this airport checking things out. hey, i watched this cool movie on the airplane. it’s called “Australia.” did you see it before? it’s a very long movie and i actually tried to watch it once but fell asleep. kind of a slow start but it gets better and better. i learned a lot about australia and the indingious people called aborigines. you should watch it and i won’t tell you the ending except to say it was awesome!
jumping on another flight soon, arriving in taipei at 9:30pm. getting a taxi straight to the night market, going to eat some bugs, shumai, lizards, nabe, and maybe even a dog. haha. just joking. then get some rest, and head down south on taiwan’s shinkansen tomorrow morning. hopefully have time to get wet in the afternoon, drink some taiwanese beer, chew some beetle nut, meet people, and enjoy life.
for now, i will study 2 words a day.
