the maitai bar on the 3rd floor of ala moana shopping center is one of the busiest night spots on oahu. happy our is pretty much all night and pitchers of beer cost $8. i use to go there every weekend when i was in college and have some great memories. and with all the drunk people walking around in that crowded bar, i remember the floor always being wet with beer. yeah, beer all over place from people dancing with full pitchers in their hands.

see that circle? there was beer on the floor and guess what? somebody slipped and fell. that’s a “no no” in america. the guy got hurt, the guy sued the maitai bar and won a $2M settlement. yeah, $2,000,000!!!! welcome to america! if you own a business in america, you better make sure the floors are clean and dry.

7 years ago i was walking on the streets in tokushima, shikoku. there was a huge festival called the “Awadori” and i was right in the middle. i put on my headband, i had a beer in both hands, and i danced till morning. it was japanese culture at its best.

who ever created this ad is a genius!!!! makes me want to drive into that tunnel!

October 12, 2012 Hawaii Surf Report

Japan on FIRE! Check out this live volcano in Japan. Cool. I mean, hot!
Good morning 5:45am surf check.
North: 2-3′. Way down from yesterday. Maybe good Rocky Point.
South: Waist/chest high Ala Moana. Bigger later as the new South Swell arrives. Very clean.
Light wind now becoming stronger later.
Partly cloudy becoming super sunny.
Going surfing.
Have a wonderful day!
Surf All Shores, Da Spot, Underground, Ulua
wow, the north shore was good and the south shore was good. waves all around the island with great conditions. i surfed 4.5 hours today like usual and i don’t know how longer my skin will take all this sunshine. there is a little south swell running and the conditions are perfect. super stoked on days like this.

i surfed with Nomura-san this morning. i was surprised on good he surfed. he ended up catching more waves than me, and did more turns than me. i was super stoked to meet a underground japanese ripper. strong paddler, good style, and super fast. after catching all those waves, we went to my favorite spot to eat, Da Spot! can’t beat a curry plate with a smoothie for under $10. cheap and good! i love this place!

the first time i went to Da Spot was about 6 years ago when they first opened down a side street in mccully. i ordered the egyptian chicken back then it’s been my favorite ever since. then i tried the #20 pineapple smoothie. so good!

a lot of people have been asking me how’s the diving been. diving? do i dive? haha. i’ve been so busy that i forgot what diving was. and i forgot what my boat looks like. or do i even have a boat? haha. it’s been a while since i hunted for dinner and the more people ask me about it, the more i want to go. there is a little hole where these monster ulua’s hang out. i haven’t checked it in a long time and i bet there are some big monsters in there. maybe this weekend? now i’m starting to wish for flat waves but that’s not going to happen as the next south swell is coming to town. help!
