i just saw the new Free Surf magazine. it’s the north shore preview issue and if you want to see big waves, this is the one. the north shore season is officially on and things are going to get exciting. the big waves, the wipeouts, the localism, the fights, and even deaths. it happens every year and that’s why if you want to become a respected surfer in the world, you have to prove yourself on the north shore of hawaii!

i was super stoked to see the new Vertra Sunscreen ad. stoked to see my family in this photo. tony and the boys are all grown men now. from diapers to big waves. i love it!

can you believe the kids are half japanese? to me, the only japanese looking one is seth on the far left. and see those boards they are holding? it’s called an Alaia surfboard that the ancient hawaiians used for surfing. Josh and Seth actually hand shaped those for a school project. cool yeah.

this is the part that gets overlooked by everybody. people just look at the photo and flip the page. i look at who took the photo. my sister actually took this one on sept. 11th. 9/11? weird day? and not only do i look at the photo details, i look behind this ad. if you think my sister took this photo and it came out like this, sorry sis. this is an example of excellent photoshop and design by my good friend Bobby Higa. Bobby’s actually one of the guys who i went for advice before i decided to buy a computer and go to photoshop classes. he taught me a lot and showed me some tricks. every time i had a problem, i’d go to Bobby and he’d help me through it. i don’t want to blow the deal and tell you what i think he did to make this photo so amazing. just use your imagination and think how hawaii use to be a hundred years ago. enough said! great job to tony and the kids for the great smiles. great job to tammy for the great photo. and great job to bobby for the great design. great + great + great = EXCELLENCE!
