Hawaii nei by Angela Maki Vernon

when i first started photography 6 years ago, i never dreamt of having one of my photos on the cover of a magazine or book. i did my best, dreamt, and of course, my dreams come true. i can’t even count how many covers or books that my photo was published throughout these years but all i can say is that i truly appreciate every chance, and every opportunity i get. my camera is old and outdated but still does the job. yes, i can keep spending thousands of dollars in updating my equipment but i found out that it’s not the camera, it’s the subject. take this subject (Angela Maki Vernon) for example. i could have shot her with my iPhone and gotten all the photos i needed. yeah, my job is that easy.

so go to your local bookstore in japan and you will see Angela Maki’s book on every shelf. its’ called Hawaii Nei and inside you will see the true hawaii. some japanese models and actresses come to hawaii once a year and try to make a book. Angela lives here so she can go much deeper than most people.

this is called heaven’s beach and if you went there, you will know why. i still remember this day when we where shooting the cover shot. i would say one of the best photogenic days of the year. all you need is a photogenic model and a day like that to get a perfect cover shot.

model/surfer/yoga. she can do it all! namaste.

hawaii’s not only about the blue sky. it’s about how nature can change at any time. there was a 1 minute weather change this day and this was it. Breath Deeply!

people in japan are always looking for power spots. i can tell you a good place to go. drive your car up the mountain, hike deep in the mud for about 1 hour, get bitten by thousands of mosquitos, dehydrate from lack of water, and when you find your power spot, nothing ever matters. this was it, this was the place, and this was the moment.
i had a great time on this photo shoot. i want to thank Maki-chan for trusting me as a photographer, Tiare for the awesome styling, and all the mosquitos that bit my legs, arms, ears, neck, and nose. haha.
