Honeymoon in Hawaii…
good morning. WQS contest at bowls is ON!!! head high maybe on the sets and pretty clean. trade winds and sunny skies. low tide at 6 am, high at 2 pm. today is a surfing day. see you in the water!!!
**by the way, talked to tony last night. it’s true!! joshua moniz won the quiksilver grom search at huntington beach yesterday. BIG NEWS for the moniz family. josh beat the best groms 16 and under in the nation. and he’s only 13? i’m so stoked for him because this is going to launch his road to stardom! congratulations josh, uncle is proud of you and your power surfing!!!

this is my surf check on my morning drive to the beach. just by driving down this hill, i know what the weather is like, the wind, the swell, and the conditions. at the next intersection on the bottom of the hill, i either turn right to head to bowls, or go straight to go diamond head, or go left to head to a secret spot. it takes me 1 minute to drive down this hill and that’s all it takes. been doing it for years and i’m usually right. plus, i get to see one of the most spectacular views of the south/east shore….

i went surfing with the honeymooners from hiroshima, japan. the kinoshita’s just got married 2 days ago and are in hawaii for the first time. they asked me where do newlyweds from hawaii go to for their honeymoon? i couldn’t answer that. but then thinking about it for a while, i told them that we don’t go anywhere because it’s a honeymoon everyday in hawaii. true that!!!

we ate at cooke street diner yesterday. for all these years, i didn’t know that the monday special is baked garlic chicken? i tried it and gosh did i like it. i’ll see you there next week monday…

and last, wanted to thank yoshi and mitusko kinoshita for the great time yesterday. and thank you for the delicious hiroshimia manjyu. i wish the future is filled with happiness for the both of you. kekkon omedetou gozaimasu!!!
7/11 Crab

this is called a 7/11 crab. this is one of the best and sweetest crabs in the world. how do you catch it? grab the thing and hope the pinchers don’t get your fingers. if it pinches you, you’ll lose a finger for sure. i grab them from the back legs very carefully. some guys spear it but why do you want to do that? if you poke a hole in the shell, say sayonara to the miso. how do you cook it? put it in boiling water for 15 minutes. how do you eat it? wrap it in a towel, get out a hammer, and start pounding it. these crab shells are really thick so don’t try to bite it with your teeth unless you want to visit a dentist soon. after you pound it with the hammer, take it out of the towel and pick out the sweet crab meat. if you want to know how it taste? just let me say this, “it melts in your mouth.” i gotta go because this crab is boiling right now. itadakimasu!!!
**oh, one last thing. i really don’t like asking for things but i just can’t help this. i’ve been driving around the island looking at juicy mangos on all the trees. it’s mango season in hawaii but i don’t have a mango tree. if you go to the super market, you only can find mangos imported from the philippines. no way for me. i want sweet hawaiian juicy mangos. i see mango trees hanging onto the streets and sidewalks from peoples houses. is it ok to pick some? is it illegal? is it stealing? i’m really tempted to grab a few but before i do that, i want to ask if somebody has a tree filled with mangos. i will clean your yard, i will water your plants, i will even wash your car, just give me a couple of mangos. i would say hahaha… but i’m not joking.. haha…
