good evening. first of all, want to thank EVERYBODY for the nice emails and comments about the boys winning yesterday. i’m still stoked about it and i think i’m happier then them. i don’t think they realize that this is their biggest accomplishment in their young surfing careers. we had a celebration party last night in kuta including an awesome yakiniku japanese style dinner. got up early this morning and got barreled and barreled. i shot a few photos from the water and i think i have 2 cover shot kind of photos of seth. perfect lighting, perfect face, and perfect focused. wait till you see it on some cover or poster somewhere in this world….
a lot of people wanted to see some photos of the grom contest but i was planning to run a feature of it in the next go-naminori magazine. but because i’m so nice, i’ll give you a sneak preview… haha..

i’ll tell you how seth won. he was focused!! he did off the lips, tail slides, cutbacks, snaps, and airs on every wave. he mixed it up and nobody could touch him. he as surfing against guys older than him but he didn’t give a shit. excuse my language. and to make it better, seth’s been getting magic boards from TSSC Matchi Shapes. give this kid a magic board and watch him do tricks that not even magicians can do…

i’ll tell you how isaiah won. from the first turn in round 1, i already knew that nobody could match his power. he was throwing sprays twice of his competitors and i think the judges seen that because he would get scored high on one turn. after doing a few big turns on the outside, isaiah decided to bust an aerial in the inside and pulled it off. SOLID!!
wanted to take this time to congratulate all the competitors in the event. the kids were all ripping and the level is so high now. it was good to see them having fun and going for their dreams. when i was a grom, we had nothing like this. i hope the kids these days appreciate what they have…

the highlight of the contest for me was watching this young japanese girl go head to head with the boys. she was ripping and made it to round 2. she was in seth’s heat and when seth came in, he told me: “uncle, i was trying so hard to give her a wave. i wanted her to make it”. i thought that was cute…. i’m sorry i don’t this little girls name but i just wanted to say “congratulations”….
oh, sorry for not responding to everybody’s emails. i’m just too busy having fun!! i promise i’ll get back to every one of you.

good morning. day 4? going to have fun again!!!
as an uncle to isaiah and seth, i couldn’t be more proud. we all came here for an experience and an experience and a half is what we’re getting. we all had no clue there was even a contest. kimura-san invited us to bali, we came. made entered the 2 boys in the contest, they won. it’s a chain of people that made this dream for me happen. yes, i’m an uncle to these boys and when they feel happiness, i feel it too. and to see them shine here makes me tear. for the past 20 years, i’ve seen bali rippers bol and garut grow into fine international surfers. all along the way, i thought it would be a dream to see my nephews do the same. so here we are in bali. when the 2 boys stepped off the plane, nobody here knew them. now? everybody knows them. they represented hawaii with flawless surfing, and the upmost respect for the locals here. watching them carry themselves made me really proud. i’m so happy that i don’t even know what i’m talking about… anyway, we still have many more things to do and many more waves to ride so i better get out of here. but before i forget, i want to congratulate isaiah and seth moniz for an awesome display of surfing yesterday. the future is yours!!!

isaiah had 3 local indonesian rippers in the heat. he paddled out and surfed it smart. in fact, he killed it!!!

seth had an australian ripper, and indonesian ripper, and a japanese ripper named ryota. he went out and surfed a perfect heat. in fact, he killed it!!!

when ever i’m in bali, i feel rich!!! i’ll buy anybody a beer!!!
