good morning. 6 am and i see a little south swell in town. bowls and the park have some nice 2′ sets. it’s looking really clean now. 30 guys already out at ala moana park, 5 at kaisers, 6 at rockpiles, and 9 at bowls. umm… doko iko? means “where should i go?” i’ve surfed this pretty good wave the past 2 days. chest high and barreling. it was only carissa moore and myself yesterday at this nice peak and i witnessed some amazing surfing. she was practicing her 360 air reverse and making all of them. she told me she’s graduating from punahou next week, then heading to peru for the next WCT womens contest. mark these words: “CARISSA MOORE IS GOING TO BE WORLD CHAMPION REALLY SOON!” anyway, better get going. have a nice day!!!

if you have ever met seth moniz, you will fall in love with this kid. not his eyes, not his surfing, but his personality. seth is one of the most kind and caring kid out there. he was like that ever since he was born. he’d always see if everybody is ok, share things, and play with the kids that nobody wanted to play with. seth gets along with everybody and everybody likes him. nobody has anything bad to say about him and if they do, i’ll beat them up. haha…

kazuma fell asleep in the car on the way back from a long surf in bali. when i turned around, seth just sat there smiling with kazuma leaning on him. i thought it was kind of cute so i got out my camera, told seth to smile, and embarrassed the heck out of him. haha… i just want seth to know that taking care of others is nothing to be embarrassed about. i hope seth stays this “LOVABLE” forever….

it’s pretty funny how kyle and i speared the same fish practically the same size. the first kahala swam up from the deep and i shot it around 40′. later in the day, i was watching kyle and his kahala play cat and mouse. it swam so close to him that it practically hit his speargun. he couldn’t shoot it because it was so close so instead of the fish backing off, kyle had to back off and shot it. as for the uku, that one was a little harder. uku’s are freaking smart and hard to shoot. and uku’s are one of the best for the dinner table because you can prepare it anyway. kyle went pretty deep and stayed down long to get this one. my uku was easier. i don’t think it saw me so i put the spear in the brain and it was over in a second. we both had the same kind and same size fishes…..

ok, finally i have time to talk about something that happened what seems to be years ago. kelia moniz got the latest cover shot for surfer girls japan. that’s her on the right and her buddy alisha gonzalves on the left. for those of you who don’t know, kelia is a sponsored international roxy girl. she’s on the cover of the big roxy book, she’s all over on big posters in the roxy stores around the world, she’s on the roxy jam posters, and a lot of roxy merchandise. it’s her time to shine and a few of us are working hard to take her to japan this summer. i know it will be a good opportunity for her, and for her fans. if the trip works out, i will give you all a detailed schedule so you have your chance to meet kelia. but for now, pick up the new surfer girls magazine because she’s got a lot of photos in there….


this is kelia and coco ho. we borrowed their uncle marcus’ vw bus for this photo shoot. i had a great time taking photos of these young girls. watch in 30 years from now, these photos will be classic…. haha… thanks marcus for letting us borrow your vw for the cover shot. score!!! and thank surfer girls for using the photos!!
