on the rocks! gosh, i miss a nice glass of whisky with a ball of ice in it.
i surfed 2 rounds today. the waves kept on getting better and better. when i paddled out this afternoon at 1pm, the waves and conditions were like indonesia. solid 4′ sets and absolutely perfect conditions. the waves have been good this past 3 week so everybody is burnt out. not me! i surfed epic bowls with only 2 other locals out. had the best session in a very long time. glad to be back to paradise and couldn’t have timed it any better. another huge swell coming on wednesday!!! see you in the water.

ALS: Ice Bucket Challenge

i get an email from Matsu. he sends me a video of his friend that has ALS. i had no idea what ALS was. come to find out, ALS is Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis or often referred to as “Lou Gehrig’s Disease.” ALS is a disease that affects nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord to the muscles throughout the body. this leads to death, and there is no cure.
so awareness is the place to start. there is a huge social media thing going on now called the “Ice Bucket Challenge.” people have ice water poured on them and challenge others to do it. this gets the word out, which leads to monetary donations, which leads to scientifically finding a cure. thousands around the world have taken the Ice Bucket Challenge, but the video Matsu sent me is much different.
Mark is Matsu’s good friend that use to live in japan for 10 years. Mark has ALS. he is doing the Ice Bucket Challenge on his own and is raising awareness of this terrible disease. hey Mark, my heart goes out to you brother! there will be a way! keep positive and keep spreading the word! you will be cured!
