good monday morning. 6am and it’s so lighted outside. wow, i guess you can surf from 5:30am these days. checking the surf now and it looks like it came up a little from yesterday. just a little. seen a waist/stomach high set at rockpiles with 2 guys out. only 1 guy at the bowl. that’s were i’m going because yesterday was super fun and uncrowded. in fact, at one point, nobody was out. north shore came up a little too. see some 1 footers at lani’s and some swells coming into pipe. the winds backed down so it looks like it will be another awesome day here in hawaii. enjoy….

still having problems getting aid into myanmar. the longer it takes, the more people will die. check out the photos of myanmar before the cyclone, and after the cyclone. sad….

and other sad news just in. a 7.8 magnitude earthquake killed more than 8,500 people in china. a local school collapsed and 900 kids are trapped under the rubble. there’s been so many deadly natural disasters these days. and the scary part is that nobody knows where and when the next one will happen. enjoy life guys..

BIG NEWS TODAY… i got a call from kelia saying “uncle, i’m in the final”. shit, i was tripping out. a week ago when kelia told me she that she qualified for the volcom contest in california, i thought it was the longboard division. but i was wrong, she qualified for the shortboard division. i never thought anything of it because longboarding is her speciality and shortboarding was just for fun. so i figured she’ll go along for the ride. then she made her first heat, then her second, then won her semifinal heat. next thing you know, she’s in the final. she placed 4th place in one of the biggest international surfing events of the year. kelia ended up being the top placing hawaiian with a better result than defending champion coco ho. and to top it off, she won $2,000. i’m so proud of her and i bet this was my sisters best mothers day present ever. kelia, uncle is so proud of you!!! and now there isn’t just a longboard threat in the surfing industry, shortboarders better watch out…. the only thing that makes me a little mad is that i told kelia last night “don’t fall, don’t fall, don’t fall”. so she fell. if kelia focuses more and completes her waves, she could have won the whole thing. anyway, i’m still dam proud of her… good job sis….

imagine me at home watching her heats live on my computer. i was a nut case. everytime she fell, i was yelling “sh@t…. and i could hear my sister from miles and miles away yelling the same thing…. haha….

6:15am and the waves look super small around the island. flat on the north shore and pretty much flat in town. smallest it’s been in a while. solid north/west swell with no winds starting thursday. you know what that means? epic surf!!! have a safe and nice day….
