Honolulu Airport Shuttle….

good evening. what another beautiful surfing day it was here in hawaii. i surfed bowls this morning and it was really fun. chest high sets and off shore winds. not too many people were out so it was pretty mellow. a couple of my friends were saying “go kirby” when the sets came. but i said “no thank you”. haha… i told them that i was out in the water only to hang out and get wet. i just want to paddle around in the inside and catch small ones. another surf trip is coming up soon so i want to be surf hungry again. and i’m far from that right now…. so to all my friends out there, if you see a set, GO!! i’ll just wait for the next one….

for all of those who come to hawaii. here’s a tip. if you don’t have a ride from the airport to your hotel in waikiki, take the airport shuttle. as soon as you come out of customs, look for these 2 girls and follow them. the shuttle bus is right behind them. see it? walk there and get dropped off right to your hotel for $9. pretty cheap….

$9 one way or $25 round trip. next time i come back to hawaii and nobody can pick me up, i’m catching the shuttle bus to waikiki….. can’t beat that price….

yesterday i got a new camera phone. i was trying to play around with it before i surfed bowls in the evening. i was kind of bummed that the photos were all blurry… shit, i forgot to take off the plastic seal that protects the camera… stupid yeah…

i’ve been surfing with tokura-san in town. it’s funny how we surfed 6′ perfect mentawai waves 3 weeks ago and surfing chest high ala moana bowls today. to us, surfing is surfing and where ever we are, we still know how to have fun…. enjoy surfing and live a happy life!!!!

Golf Anyone???

good morning. the south swell is still super fun. i surfed bowls yesterday evening until the sun set. there were shoulder high sets and not too many surfers out. it was one of the few times i surfed bowls in the evening and it was kind of cool because there was a different crowd out. i guess the after work crew? well, today is looking like the same size and pretty clean. i see 14 surfers out now. i’m going surfing!!! have a nice day….

there is this used golf club store in downtown on the corner of merchant and richards street. you can find the best deals on golf clubs, both new and used….

this is kind of a local store where not too many japanese know about. thank goodness.. if japanese knew about here, it would be packed everyday with tour busses and the prices will go up. haha… as for now, you can find the best deals in the world here… a full set of PING irons? $200-300. cheap yeah?

looking at these clubs makes me want to play golf again… then i will quit surfing and diving again?? haha.. golfing is addicting and i was once there. waking up every morning hoping the waves were shitty so i could go spend $100/day to go golf. what the heck was i thinking????

here is the used club section. $5 for irons, or $10 for woods…. yasui!!!

Hawaii Skin Diver Cover Shot….

good evening. the waves were pretty fun all day. the wind came onshore in the day but the sets were head high so it was all good. another great day in hawaii. more and more waves on the way!!!

hey guys, it’s out!!! the new HAWAII SKIN DIVER magazine. this was our timor, indonesia trip last fall and gosh, it seemed so long ago. but seeing these photos and reading the story made it feel like yesterday once more…. i took this cover photo of eric walker, who is an excellent diver from the virgin islands…

the first spread of the article is me coming back from spearing my biggest fish to date. imagine this beast coming straight for you? it was kind of scary….

they ran a big 9 page article and i was stoked to see so many of my photos in there. thanks HSD!!!

we were diving in some ripping current about 10-40′ deep at this secluded island. and island where indonesia militants gunshots were actually fired to our boat to get our attention. after paying them some money and giving them two coca cola’s, we got the permit to dive. i had my bigger gun when i shot a GT earlier. the fish took off with my spear in it. loosing a spear is like breaking a board. i was bummed. so i go back to the boat and grab my little 100cm andre gun. i told myself that i wouldn’t shoot a big fish with it because if i lost it, i would be done. no gun, no dive. so i’m swimming around in the shallow water as i see a shark approaching. the shark was maybe 6′ at the biggest. it swam right my me and behind it was a big shadow. i looked good and seen the GT swimming right behind the shark following it away from my. so i drop down to the reef and stir up some sand, the shark continued away but the GT turned around and came swimming up fast at a straight line to me. i said “shit!!” next thing you know, it was 6′ away and i was thinking if this thing was going to eat me. i had my gun pointed but didn’t want to take the shot. a million of things were running through my mind. then at 3′ away, he turned and i looked him in the eye, which was 5x bigger than mine. i pointed my little gun to his brain and “bam”….. he turned over and though he was dead. but i was wrong. he started kicking around and as i was getting tangled up in the line, travis came over and sank the kill shot. i stuck my little knife in the brain and the rest was history. look at that shot where my spear is going into his brain. any other place in the fish, he would have taken off and i would have lost the fish, along with my gun. it was a cool experience that i will never forget. free dive!! free surf!!! what a life…..
