for all these years i’ve been coming to shonan, i could never find a place that has it all. good food, cheap, old school, and good vibe. well, that’s until last night. we were driving around chigasaki looking for somewhere different to eat. we passed by this hole in the wall yakiniku place that specializes in deer meat. heard it was one of kenji sahara’s secret spots. well, not anymore. haha….
everything was so cheap!!! and good!!!
the deer meat tasted much better than the kalbi….
and the pigs feet? oh my gosh!!!! awesome… sorry kalua…
the vibe? awesome.. it was so loud, smokey, and everybody was having a good time. this is deep japan where you’ll never find tourists. gosh i wish i had my video camera….
then after getting stinky with smoke and garlic breath, we stopped by this ice cream shop called “PLENTY’S”. i’d have to say it was much better than bubbie’s back in hawaii. try their speciality, chocolate…
**well, two new places are in my restaurant guide in shonan. next time i come back here, i’m going the same route. so far, my favorite places in shonan…. going to the airport and heading to surf my dream…..
Deer Meat and Plenty's Ice Cream….

and last….
pulled this photo off kairi’s blog because i have something to say about it. last week while i was watching the grom contest in chiba, there was something that disturbed me. red bull energy drink was there promoting their high caffeine energy drinks and i seen kids as young as 5 years old drinking it. they were giving it away free to the kids and i seen so many kids drinking before and after their heats like it was gatorade or something. to all you parents out there, red bull is full of caffeine and it’s not good for kids. not to mention addictive. drinking one red bull is like drinking couple cups of coffee. and to red bull japan. try to be more responsible. if this were america, you would get into big trouble. energy drinks ain’t healthy for kids. and that’s a fact. and to all you kids that drank red bull before your heats in chiba and felt like your head was going to spin off of felt like you were surfing as fast as kelly slater, it was the caffeine….
Lifeguards Post Shark Warning Signs At Ala Moana..
read an article of a diver’s catch getting taken by a shark at ala moana beach park. so they posed signs. ummm… do you think it’s a divers responsibility to report such incidents? i was thinking about it as i read the article on the local news site. as a diver or surfer, do you think we should report all shark encounters? so every time i see a big tiger shark out at waikiki, i should call the lifeguards so they post shark warning signs? that’s a good question. would i be responsible if i didn’t report it and somebody gets attacked by a shark? ummm… got me thinking. i’ll just say this for now, there are sharks EVERYWHERE!!! if there’s ocean. if all divers and surfers reported shark sightings, we would have shark warning signs posted everyday on every beach in hawaii. when you keep on seeing and having close encounters with sharks, you tend to get use to it. we see tiger sharks everywhere and even after almost getting attacked by one a while ago in waikiki, i didn’t feel like i had to tell the lifeguards or anything. it felt like another day in the ocean. it’s part of life. if you go into the ocean, there will be sharks. just like if your a mailman in waianae, you will encounter vicious dogs. by the way, that little 8′ shark in the photo was right out waikiki in 10′ deep water. it probably could have bitten your leg off. just joking….
i come to japan at this time of year for what? for this!!! normal people are tying down their boats, boarding up the windows, storing water and food, and wishing this typhoon will turn away and back on down. me? i’m getting on a plane tomorrow and heading to the action. stay tuned for photos and video. typhoon season on!!! i’m so excited i won’t be able to sleep tonight….
