HOW TO COACH JOHN JOHN FLORENCE

last year, Nao-san brought to Hawaii some of the best almonds i’ve ever eaten. so this year, she told me where to get some and i went to get some. a little health store in Ebisu called Sunshine Juice.

these raw tamari almonds are the best! i keep it in my car and when i get hungry, just a few will fill me up and get me through another 3 hour session.

been eating the most amazing food in Japan. this yakitori place in Azabu Juban was amazing! starting off with this.

OMG, the chicken sashimi was the best.

the heart and liver was my favorite. i love it!

then the yakitori just kept on coming and coming.

more chicken guts. so tasty.

then ended it off with a raw egg over rice. want to thank my best of best friends for joining me for a wonderful private dinner.

everybody is wondering why John John Florence is suddenly losing in contests so much? analysts have their own conspiracy theories, but i know for a fact why he’s losing. it’s because of the foil! foiling throws off everything. using different muscles than surfing, using different weight distribution for front and back legs, timing is different, and most of all, you lose the hunger for surfing because foiling is way more exciting. and unless you foil, you won’t know what i’m talking about. i was almost going to call John John’s coach Ross Williams and say “hey Ross, get that kid off the foil! don’t let him ever use it until he wins the other 10 championships he’s capable of winning. than when it’s over, he can foil for the rest of his life.”

Big Hawaii, Small World…

you can see the coolest things walking down Route 134. i loved this stop.

full of life right on the beach side road.

and the old school well from the ground up. classic…

hey, it might sound crazy, but the island of Oahu is totally fine. can’t sat the same about the island of Hawaii. this is getting beautifully crazy.

now i know never to buy a house near an active volcano. it’s just a matter of time something like this will happen.

heard about the Hawaiian Airlines staff throwing suitcases down the conveyer belt? hey, this happens around the world, not only in Hawaii. and like i tell everyone, “i don’t care how good you pack your surfboards up, if some girl is throwing bags down like this, your surfboard isn’t safe at all.”

i get off the train at Harajuku. as i was walking up the stairs with the other thousands of people, i was thinking to myself “wow, it would be crazy to see someone i know in this crazy crowd.” one second later, i loop up and see my foiling friend Daniel staring right at me. omg! what a small world!!!

Kinoo@Kamakura

Yesterday I was foiling at Kamakura and it was so fun! We went looking for any kind of swell and found one right in front of the main road. I got the foil out, jumped in, and had a blast. This is the most I’ve surfed in Japan for a very long time. I can’t wait to do it again. Thank you Naoka for taking this photo.

Now I’m going to sample this Google Translator so let me know how it goes. Thank you!
