I got these 2 photos off the Hawaii news website. Luke Shepardson was an alternate who got in the contest last minute. He is also a lifeguard who was working at the Waimea Bay lifeguard tower on the day of the contest. He surfed his heats on his break. And Luke Shepardson won the event by scoring 89.1 points out of a possible 90. He was the giant killer!
And Luke Shepardson wears a DOVE impact suit. Nobody knew who this kid was, but now the whole world knows him. That’s a win win situation!
