After my beautiful morning surf, I had a pleasant drive out to the North shore. Absolutely no traffic until I arrive on the North shore. It came to a sudden stop and I thought, “ok, the Pipeline Pro is on so everybody is coming out to watch.” Then as I pass Foodland, I see construction workers and cones on the road. WHAT??? OMG, they closed off a lane all day to do construction on the way to Pipeline during the Pipeline Pro? I don’t like to use the word stupid, but that is totally stupid!!! Construction adding to the spectators of one of the biggest contests in the world? Honestly, I couldn’t believe it.
I arrive late to the Billabong house and nobody was there. All the boys were already down at the beach getting ready for their heats. I arrived just in time. Whew…
Not too many spectators this year. I wonder why?
As I started making my way home, I saw a very long line of cars at a complete stop. A lot of tourists and locals spending hours in traffic rather than on the beach. Wouldn’t it be common sense to stop all construction when we have events like this? Lucky I took my electric bike today because I would have missed everything…
