Kenji-san and Rei-san are from Okinawa. when i picked up kenji-san from his hotel, the first thing i asked him was if he can take off, turn, and go up and down. i also asked him if he had travel insurance. he said yes to all so i said “ok, let’s go surf pipeline!” he said “eeh? what?” we ended up surfing pipeline/backdoor 2 rounds totaling 5 hours. kenji-san caught so many good waves and there were only a few guys out with us in the afternoon session. i’ve surfed okinawa many times and know all to well how shallow it is. compared to there, pipeline is deep. even kenji-san agreed. i was so happy to enjoy a day with a happy wonderful couple. thank you both for the laughs and hope to see you again!
when ever i shoot, i’m always looking for my friends. and when i see them take off, my lens is on them the whole way. this is my surf/dive friend Pakana. Pakana has no idea i was shooting and he’s going to be stoked to see this photo. i saw him in the water as i caught my last wave, and before he caught his first wave, i already had my camera out. can’t be faster than that. haha. i should be getting a call from pakana anytime soon asking me for this photo. i took a 5 shot sequence.
somebody asked me what does “kanji warui” mean in english. it’s hard to explain but if you look at the photo, this is kanji warui. a surfer sitting in the first seat of a private jet waiting for his champagne. haha. thank you Yuki-san for showing everybody how much i love traveling with you guys. see you soon!
