wow, what a crazy long exciting day! woke up at 2am, drank kombucha, brushed my teeth, ate cereal, packed, and left for the sea.
every time i drive early in the morning, i remember the days i use to be coming home at these hours from party’s and stuff. then sleep all day long. what a waste! i really like my life a lot better now. just maximizing ever precious minute of the day.
i have a new duty of being a captain of a very nice boat. today was a test for both the boat, and myself. i’ve never drove to another island before and never drove at night either. we left oahu at 4am and i was flying over waves in the pitch dark! if i hit a whale, we would be done. and yes, i was thinking about that as i pushed the throttle more and more. there was a bright star shinning in the sky and i used that for navigation. then when the sun started to brighten up the sky, i thought i was in heaven!
imagine the sun rising as the whales are jumping. look closely and you will see a baby whale jumping into the sun. it was like a national geographic moment. a moment i will never forget.
we probably seen over 10 whales today. there were 3 right in front of my boat so we stopped and enjoyed natures moment. gosh, i wish everybody could experience what we did today.
i went to another island to search for private beaches and places to park the boat for a sleep over. and guess what? if found it all!
and now since i know where to go, i will go many many of times in the future. i was thinking to myself that there is a lot of hawaii that we all don’t know of. i’m excited to explore more and more of every single island.
and we looked for a couple of spots to pick up fish for meals if we do plan to stay a few days on the boat. found that too! we did a couple of free dives until James yelled at us while we where in the water “SHARK! GET OUT!” James sees sharks all the time and usually doesn’t tell us to get out of the water. but today, he said this shark was long and fat. big enough to eat us in one bite. so we jumped back on the boat and called it a day.
want to thank Kyle, Kekoa, and James for risking their lives with me today. and i didn’t want to say this but i fell asleep 2x on the drive back. you guys looked so comfortable sleeping so i got sleepy too. luckily there isn’t anything in the ocean to crash into. haha. and also want to thank Mayuki for getting us there and back very comfortably.
well, we survived and everybody must be very tired. it was a great learning experience for me and now i feel a little more confident in my dream to sail the world. hope you can join me on my next voyage!
