just got the new Honolulu Magazine and was flipping through it. everybody likes cheap eats right?

then this photo of the old Waialae Drive-in popped up. gosh, i remember watching the movie “Grease” there. haha. i was in 10th grade high school when my friend Derek use to pick us up in his dad’s dodge dart. it had a huge trunk so about 5 of us use to hide in the trunk so we didn’t have to pay to get into the drive-in. once in, we all get out and sit on the ground and watch the movie. then when somebody wanted to use the bathroom, we would all go together because it was haunted. yeah, real ghosts use to live in the bathroom and many people seen them. maybe because there was a graveyard next to it? anyway, Kahala Zippy’s is now in the place but i will never forget the awesome memories that happened at that drive-in. it was so fun to be a kid in hawaii!

then the first mcdonald’s ever in hawaii was at aina hina. my grandma use to work there cooking hamburgers. i remember going to the side window to say hello as my grandma use to smile and enjoy her job. gosh, i think she worked there for 30 years or so and even retired from there. now it’s not there and got replace with a big new first hawaiian bank building. sad.
