yesterday was such an amazing day. was on the phone all morning long and running around so was glad to run away to the sea.

met Hayato and Naoka at 1pm for an afternoon free dive session. gosh, it’s been so long since i got to free dive! i was super excited! or should i say, we were excited!

it was many years ago when i first free dove with Hayato. i think that was his first time too. i remember him never giving up. kept on trying, kept on keeping his head up, and kept on trying. i was there when he speared his first fish and the excitement in his face looking through the mask. i was there when he saw his first shark and tried to run on water. watching him grow into a waterman throughout the years was awesome. i haven’t got to dive with him for a while but after yesterday, i rank him in the professional level of freediving and spearfishing. it’s not easy to spear fish on the south shore but yesterday the fish had no chance with Hayato in the water.

prize fish for hawaii. it doesn’t get any better than this. good job Hayato!

i haven’t seen big kumu’s in a while. i have my spots marked and the past 4 times i went to check it out, nothing was there. so pulling up today and seeing fish everywhere was so cool. and luckily, my aim was right on mark. shot every fish right in the perfect spot. a hawaiian spear fisherman would call this a very successful catch.

but i wasn’t done, went to check another spot and got 2 more fat boys.

i’m trying to teach Naoka how to dive. he’s getting better and better each time. he has yet to spear a prized fish, but he’s on his way. spearing a kole, perfect for the frying pan. Naoka was so excited to finally spear a fish. Hayato and I were totally cracking up on his little fish. haha. but this is a start. this is where everybody starts. Hayato and I were once there so we know the feeling. a feeling only a spear diver can experience.

this is called a Munu, or should i say, a giant Munu. these fish don’t get any bigger than this. i was so happy that i had to kiss it before i ate it. welcome to my stink fish lips. haha.

at the end of the day, i checked my watch and recorded 44 dives. that’s a lot of dives for 3.5 hours in the water. i felt young again, i felt fresh again, i felt healthy again, and i felt stress free again. it’s amazing how the ocean can cure your mind, body, and soul. i can’t wait to dive again!
