now meet this guy Rudy Kurnaiwan. he’s from indonesia and has single handedly tricked the billion dollar wine industry with his counterfeit wine. he’s a master wine taster who mixed cheap wine together to imitate the taste of fine luxury wine like Romanee Conti. poured it into bottles, stuck on the counterfeit labels, and sold it to luxury wholesalers. he did it so well that his bottles were undetected and sold for $20,000/each. he’s made millions and lived the luxury life.
he sold case after case and made over $150 million. then one day, somebody smarter than him found out what he was doing and turned him in to the police. now Rudy is spending 10 years in an american jail. make $150 million and only serve 10 years in jail? i know a lot of people who would take that deal. haha.
they are now destroying the counterfeit wines. and also searching for the rest that are out there in the market.
i just watched this documentary called “Sour Grapes.” it was very interesting and very entertaining. now i’m craving for some real fine wine. not fake, but real wine!
