Sailing Panic Attack

Just a few days ago, this sailboat got pushed into the reef at Rockpiles.  It’s been sitting there for 5 days and nobody came to take it out of the ocean.  It looks like it’s still in good shape right?

This morning we went to look at it.  OMG, look what the waves and reef did to it!  The story is a 24 year old girl just bought the sailboat and took it out for a test run.  First, nobody should have been out on that day.  Second, she was sailing way to close to the waves.  Third, once she lost control, she should have thrown out the anchor to stop it from going on the reef.  BUT, she didn’t.

And this is what happens when you’re inexperienced and panic.  Jeannie Chesser posted a video that Alan took of the damaged reef.  It was very sad to see.

We paddled out to see if the sailboat ruined the surf break.  Other than a trail of broken reef, the surf was the same.  Mighty Mouse loving the clean water and warm weather.

Rocky’s wave knowledge is very high level.  She knows how to read the waves, currents, winds, swell direction, and which board to use for any given day.  That’s talent.

It was just the 2 girls and I enjoying this fun wave today.  After all those crazy days of intense Boot Camp, today was like Disneyland.

Paradise…

Good morning 4am.
North shore 6-8′ and good. Pipeline Pro ON!
Ala Moana knee high.
Diamond Head waist high.
East winds at 15mph.
Sunny and warm.
Going to the sea.
Have a wonderful day!

Star Surfers

We started super early this morning.  So early that as we were checking the waves in the dark, we could also see the bright stars.

With the light winds and North/East swell, we headed to the East side again.  Really fun waves!  Just the girls out having intense Boot Camp.

This winter has been the best in years for the East side of Oahu.  Good waves and good winds.  This morning was overhead and I’m sure it will still be good tomorrow.

This 5′ barreling right and nobody out this morning.  The best in years!

Round 2 we surfed somewhere else.  Nobody out again.  It’s pretty cool to have the whole ocean to yourself.  I hope these  dream swells never end.
