day 2. we hook up with a fish while trolling on the boat. the normal fisherman thing to do is to get a gaff and gaff the fish to bring it on the boat. the only problem? the fish is still alive and kicking around with 6 hooks flying around the place. i run to get my 3 prong or hawaiian sling but was too late. the indo guys were already trying to take the hook out of the GT’s mouth. and then it happened…..
the fish kicked again and the hook caught one of the crews hand. and the fish was still jumping around so his finger was jumping around too. it was pretty gross…..
ouch…. lucky it was only his finger and not his eye…. the captain ended up cutting the hook and got it out. after that day, the gaff never came out again. it was the hawaiian sling taking its place. one shot while the fish is coming up on the side of the boat, and the fish is dead…. diver style. after that, we speared uluas, baracuddas, and even a 100lbs plus sailfish. what ever works right? and get this, the captain ended up buying my 3 prong as his new gaff….
DANGER: Fish hooks hurt….
Selamat Pagi!!!
Selamat Pagi from Bali…. just wanted to drop in and say thank you to everybody who sent me happy birthday emails. yeah, it was my birthday on oct. 1st. kelia leaked it out on her blog and it got out. it’s so amazing how many people check her blog everyday. i have to go back to hawaii and scold her. “hey girl, uncle likes to keep somethings private in his life girl. go easy”….. then give her a big hug… i usually keep my birthday to myself and celebrate it by looking back at the past year, and looking forward to the next. so many things happened and are happening. keeping positive and still learning how to appreciate things and people more than i already do. last year i spent my birthday in cebu, philippines. this year i was in sumba, indonesia. pretty cool. anyway, gotta get going. thanks again and have a great day…
**by the way, wanted to say happy birthday to kyle nakamoto from hawaii, and chobo-san from “the shop” in hiratsuka. we were all born on the same day!!! happy birthday boys!!!!
Traveling Excess Baggage…
this is the hassle part of traveling. getting the boards on the truck, off the truck, on the truck, off the truck, on the plane, off the plane, on the truck, off the truck, on the dingy, off the dingy and finally on the boat. it takes a lot of time but after it’s all done, it’s worth it… oh, then when the trips over, it’s the opposite all over again….. we had 350 something kilos in excess baggage. everybody bought their houses with them…. i felt bad only bringing 5 cups of rice and nori… haha….
