Classic is always classic…

Good morning 3:40am.
Ala Moana waist high and good.
Diamond Head chest high and bumpy.
Trade winds at 25mph.
Sunny and warm.
Going to the sea.
Have a wonderful day!

Welcome to Japan!

on the way back from Bali, i had the choice to transit in Australia, Philippines, or Japan.  the Japan transit course cost a lot more, but i didn’t care.  i just wanted to feel Japan again so i had a 4 hour transit at Narita.  and it was amazing!

it felt weird seeing chairs at the arrival gate.  thank goodness i didn’t have to sit there and wait.  all i had on my mind was “sushi!!!”  so i start walking around the airport and looking for the food!

omg, the whole airport was closed so this was the only place to eat!  usually i would never eat here, but i had no choice.

so i ordered the udon, curry, and gyoza for dinner.  it was delicious!  after 2 weeks in Bali, i crave Japanese food so i was totally satisfied!  boarded the plane, slept, and woke up in paradise.  and i’m still craving sushi!

Jakarta Temporarily Closed

when i arrived to Jakarta airport in Indonesia, i was surprised because it seemed like i was the only one at this usually busy airport.  the last time i came here 3 years ago, there were thousands of people.

almost every shop in the airport was still closed because of the pandemic.

so if you want to eat something to eat, forget it.

even the bathrooms were closed.  this is when i thought to myself “omg, i hope my flight doesn’t get cancelled.”

it took me a while to find one open toilet, and one little shop that sold small sandwiches and water.  Jakarta is one of the few airports in the world where no traveling surfer wants to get stuck at.  Hawaii, Bali, or Japan, no problem.  but Jakarta no thank you…

whenever i return from a long trip, i take my first steps out of Honolulu Airport,  take a deep breath of fresh air, and i realize that Hawaii will be my home forever…
