Hawaii is Back to Normal

omg, when i drove out to the East side in the morning, i couldn’t believe how much traffic there was!  it was literally stopped and nobody was moving.  this is the early morning school traffic that happens Monday to Friday.  yuck…

i took a lot of photos during the pandemic.  luckily i did because you will never ever see Waikiki like this again.  i miss it.

i went to eat lunch in Chinatown again.  then i walked around to get some exercise.  to be honest, it’s pretty scary for even a local guy like me to walk around there.  i’m always looking over my shoulder and ready to defend myself.  and i’m not joking.

my Grandpa use to take me to this market when i was a kid.

he would always stop here to buy char siu.  so i stopped here to buy char siu and it reminded me of spending wonderful times with my Grandpa.  i miss him a lot.

omg, i was looking all over the island for these fruit.  Tokura-san asked me about it last time and i remember him buying a huge bag of this fruit before we boarded our Indonesia boat trips.  then we’d eat it along the 2 weeks out at sea.  so yeah, this fruit reminds me of Tokura-san.  next time i know where to take him to get some.  it’s called rambutan and it’s from South/East Asia.  it’s super sweet with a hint of sourness.  perfect for eating after a long surf session…

12 O’Clock Loving Life

it was so peaceful and entertaining to watch everybody having so much fun surfing this perfect right.  i was laughing most of the time because it’s so close to the beach so i can see their facial expressions.  it’s pure stoke!

this is probably the best spot on the island to practice surfing small waves.  and look outside to the far right.  that’s a perfect foil wave.  you take off way out there and ride it all the way to the beach, then pump back out.  amazing!

if you’re a surfer, the ultimate surfing maneuver is going straight up the lip.  we call it going 12 o’clock and if you can do this, you’re on a good board, a good wave, and have a good life.  this on my 6’8 Mike Woo, surfing Off The Wall, and loving life…
