WCT Tour Cancellation Story…

since we’re all on lockdown, we can’t go anywhere.  so going on this trip was huge for me.  i needed it more than anybody and i wanted it more than anybody.  but then again, i think Seth needed it more than me.  this kid has been traveling since he was 12 years old so being home in Hawaii during the Summer, this is probably his first.  so yeah, the WCT Tour is canceled, but he’s taking it really good and slow.  and if it weren’t for the lockdown, this kind of family experience couldn’t have happened.  so as Seth took a rest in the afternoon, i gave him his space.  then i noticed something strange…when he came back to the boat, he left his speargun hanging off the edge!  i’m surprised it didn’t fall over.  haha.  no wonder this kid looses so many things.  we dove all day long and was so tired.  so a beer at sunset tasted so good.  we had dinner, fished in the dark, watched the stars, and had an amazing conversation.  i decided not to text or check email on this trip and just give my 100% to the kids.  before dark, i told the kids to anchor the boat and make sure it’s not going to move.  i usually do it, but i trusted the kids on this one.  then in the middle of the night, something seemed wrong???  the anchor rope cut and the boat was almost on the rocks!!!  so i turned on the flashlight and made the kids secure the anchor again.  so yeah, they had to dive down in the dark.  this is part of the learning process for them so i’m glad it happened when i was there.  after, i asked Joshua, “hey, what if this happened if you were only here with your girlfriend or something?”  he said “yeah, i was thinking about that.”  haha.  so yeah, i spent some time explaining to the kids how to secure a boat properly to prevent accidents like this.  we all learn this way…Joshua and Benji slept in the back gazing at the stars.  Seth and i slept in the cabin.  after kicking me all night long, and talking in his sleep, i just had to laugh.  i didn’t get a good sleep, but Seth sure did. and of course i woke up the earliest and was ready for another wonderful day!i woke up, watched the sunrise, watched the deer playing on the beach, and just enjoyed nature at its best.  i found this little cove that is protected from the wild sea.  it was my first time spending the night there and surely not my last.  so stoked to find this beautiful place!

on the way home, i told the kids “hey, just keep watching and learning this stuff.  one day i hope you guys can do this without me here.  and when i die, keep the Mayuki legacy going.  take your friends, family, and loved ones to experience this memory of a lifetime.”  they were kind of speechless.  haha.

Boat Trip Training…

the boys have been sending me the weather report all week.  they said “uncle, no wind on Friday.”  i said “really?”  usually i check everything and decide everything so this time, i said “ok, i’ll trust the boys and let them make all decisions.”  but i knew there will be wind on Friday.  haha.  anyway, they showed up 30 minutes early because they know i’m not waiting.  it’s my way of making sure these guys are prompt…loaded up Mayuki and left Waikiki at 4:30am.  driving in pitch dark, then watched the sun slowly rise.  it was so beautiful. Seth is smart.  he knows to take the front seat because it’s the best view ever.Benji and Joshua relaxing in the back.  smiling the whole way…took us 4 hours of battling the windy channel, but we arrived at our destination safely.  i told the boys “what happened to no wind on Friday?”  haha.  but they know not to look back and only to look forward so they geared up.  our goal for the first dive was to be selective and focus on dinner.  good job boys.like i said, before i would do everything for these kids.  now they can do everything on their own.  so i just watched from the side a very proud uncle.  Joshua filleting and getting ready the fresh sashimi for dinner.when the boys were diving, i went into their cooler and found this!  so i ate it!  one of the kids bought it so i ate it without telling them.  i bet they were looking for it all day blaming each other for eating it.  haha.
