AM Round 1: another day of Boot Camp and today was all about keeping calm and enjoying the ride. just like this…
i always told Tomami-san that surfing supposed to be fun. exactly like this!
welcome to Hawaii Mr. Ueda-san! another calm and cool surfer…
and when you keep calm, you become more confident. and when you become more confident, your soul will shine…
Seira-chan was going to take a break today but Tomami-san wanted her to come. so she showed up surfing flawlessly like always.
Seira-chan is a good example of being confident and just going with the flow. we can all learn from her so having her in the water is a plus for all of us…
i’m still amazed on how far she’s come. amazed and proud…
PM Round 2: Ueda-san taught me something today. when ever he took off, he would point in the direction he wanted to go. and that’s exactly where he went. i’ll use that in my lessons from now…
everybody has a goal when it comes to surfing. this pose had to be one because it’s the ultimate soul surfer feeling. i’ve done thing thousands of time and it feels super good…
Tomami-san is one of the funniest people you will ever meet. she will make you laugh so hard that your stomach will hurt and your jaw will be sore. i haven’t laughed that much in a while so yeah, my abs are sore, and so is my jaw. haha…
if i had to describe her surfing in 2 words, it would be “Pure Determination.”
making dreams come true for other people is making my dream come true. i visioned this 25 years ago and now we are all connected by a colorful rainbow. this is what surfing is all about…

30mph onshore winds. super dark gloomy morning. nobody in the parking lot, and of course nobody out in the ocean. days like this, nobody even wants to get out of bed. when you look into the ocean, you will see all white water. that’s the hundreds of waves per minute being pushed in by the stormy onshore winds. it actually looks like a washing machine on full cycle. nobody wants anything to do with it, but it’s these days you can learn the most. you will learn about the ocean, and you will learn about yourself. i tell my students “if there’s a will, there’s a way.” that means if you think positive you can accomplish anything. just to get out to the lineup that morning took bravery and commitment. but once you got out and ride a wave, your outlook on life will never be the same. you will feel confident, and you will feel content. and if you don’t believe me, just ask Sasaki-san about this amazing morning. this is one of my best photos i’ve ever taken of “man vs. nature.” pure commitment on the paddle out. i just love it…
