The Queen of Waikiki

had a great time again this morning with Oshima-san and Ojiro-kun.  a very happy Father and Son enjoying the beautiful waves and weather in Hawaii.  the more they surf together, the more they will bond together.  that’s what the ocean offers…

Ojiro-kun is getting more and more confident.  this kid use to be scared, but now he’s focused and loving the ride.

when ever i tell him to smile, he gives me the biggest smile ever.  and you can hear him screaming with excitement when riding the waves.  so cute!!!

Oshima-san sets the example for his kids.  just be calm, be cool, and enjoy the ride.  just like this…

Ojiro-kun told me he wanted to ride a big wave.  so we waited and when i told him to paddle, he paddled himself into this nice one!

good job again today!  i’m super proud of you!

we were practicing riding the lefts today.  and just going with the flow.  going with the flow in the ocean, and going with the flow in life…

went down to Waikiki at night again.  if you heard a little loud mini motorcycle, that was me.  haha…

walked into a surf shop and seen the new cover for the Free Surf magazine.  guess who???  yup, that’s my niece Kelia Moniz!!!  the Queen of Waikiki….

Where in the World is Safe?

when ever i tell people i went to the Philippines, they ask me if it’s dangerous.  i always answer “no.”  if you watch the news, you will see all the negative news about that country and think it is.  i’ve stayed in Manila, Cebu, and most of the main islands and felt safe.  i also visited remote islands and the deeper you go, the safer you are.  and even when you walk into arenas like this, the tension is so high that it can be scary.  but this is chicken fighting which is a national sport.  illegal in other parts of the world, but who cares, this is the Philippines!   you would see guys jumping, screaming, yelling, and it sounds like their fighting.  but it’s all about gambling and having fun on a Sunday afternoon…  not lets come back to Hawaii.  recently there’s been robberies, killings, and crazy things happening daily.  guys pulling up in cars, taking out a gun, and asking you for your gold chain.  really?  yes, really… and this past weekend there was a road rage incident and one guy decided to shoot the other guys car.  really?  and yesterday i seen another road rage incident.  this angry guy pulled over at the stop light, got out of his car, and started punching the other cars window and trying to get the driver to get out.  it was crazy!   an article came out saying that one person gets killed by the gun every 8 days in Hawaii.  and in America, it’s even worst!  one person dies from the gun every 15 minutes.  so yeah, by the time i finish writing this blog, somebody got shot…

so here is my advice to people visiting Hawaii.  first, drive safe and don’t get angry if somebody cuts you off.  let it go.  second, don’t wear fancy watches, nice jewelry, and carry designer bags.  if you do, you will be a target.  and last, don’t trust anyone.  pretty sad, but that’s the world we live in these days…
