Searching for the Korean Amasan

it’s always been a dream to look for the Women of the Sea.  did that in Japan, but now that i’m in Korea, why not look for them here?  i heard about the Amasan here but had no idea where they were.  after a little research, i took a subway, bullet train, local bus, and walked for a very long time.    can you read that?  neither can i!  haha.  the cool thing about traveling in countries like this is that sign language is international..  just point and you shall go…after 2 trains, a local bus ride, and 4.5 hours, i finally arrived to the ocean!  it was so beautiful!  and there they were!  the Amasan of Korea!  the Women of the Sea!  i was so excited to see them!!! these grandma’s live the very simple life.  live by the sea, and live off the sea.  i think this is such an amazing way to live.   very healthy, and very happy! everything well organized.  no electricity or no running water.  everything provided by nature.  the cool thing about here is you can actually eat their catch.  just point and you will figure it out.  once again, international sign language at its best!  just to be able to see the Amasan was a dream for me.  but having them prepare their catch right in front of you was a fantasy.  the freshest seafood you can ever imagine.  and with every bite, i thought i was in heaven!  i think i’m in love with Korea!  haha…

Onaka ga Ippai!!!

forgot to bring my adapter.  it supposed to look like this.

another day of street walking.  egg toast?

umm…

this looked interesting so had to try it.  turned out to be pig belly skin!

you won’t find any tourist in this place.  nobody spoke English or Japanese here.  these are the kind of places i love!

the pig skin had an interesting texture.  kind of weird when you put it in your mouth, but the flavors and oils start to burst out.  very tasty!

then ate some pigs cheek too!  so cheap and so delicious!

not even 24 hours since i arrived in Korea, i must have walked about 4 hours going in and out of all the streets.  i was so hungry along the way.  ended up eating 5 meals already and must have gained so much weight.   it’s only day 1 and i feel pregnant!   haha…

The Colors of Korea…

it seems like every meal you order, this will be your free side dish.  a dish of Korea… i love crab and have been eating crab my whole life.  but this one was the absolutely best ever!  raw marinated blue crab that just melts in your mouth… it’s pretty funny because the Korean lady even feeds you!  starting with the miso! if you’re a raw crab lover like me, this dish won’t disappoint.  i seriously could eat this every single day of my life… add in a little rice, and you have a meal! i’m not a shopper kind of person.  but there is just one thing i want to buy here. the honey roasted almonds!  this is absolutely the best snack ever!
