one of Kelia’s photographers friends took this photo. it was the early morning we all arrived at the contest on the first day. Seth was out warm up surfing and right when he came in, we were all there. seeing your family for the first time in another country is special. not just for him, but for us too. this is just years of love that’s still flourishing till this day…
yes everyone, let’s KEEP IT Simple! i saw this sign every morning and that’s how i played my days out…
Yasin isn’t only our driver, he’s our bodyguard. i feel totally safe with him where ever i go. here he is carrying Tony and my new foils. totally safe in his hands..
if there was a photographer that followed Tony and i around 30 years ago, you would freak at the kind of things we use to do. or i mean the kinds of things Tony use to make me do. i was a young kid, he was my teacher. when he said go, i went. sometimes at 1′ Diamond Head, and sometimes at 20’s outer reefs. i would have rather died then to pull back. that’s the kind of trust i had and still have in Tony…
but when Tony foils the close to me, i get scared. he’s run me over many times before. and on this trip, he ran over an Australian foiler. scary… luckily, we all came out of this trip with getting hurt. so to teach you something about Tony, he will never stop for anyone. so if you see him coming your way, you better run or hide…
now that my Bali trip is over, here are some of our highlights. massages has to be on the top of our lists as between the 4 of us boys, we must have had a combined hundred massages from various places.
my favorite has to be Reborn. a 3 hour massage for $22. you really feel reborn when you leave here.
another highlight was watching my good friend Mike Woo’s dream come true. yes, shaping boards for Kelly Slater is any shapers dream. congratulations Mike!
for our food highlight, it was the secret local spot on the harbor. if it wasn’t for our driver Yasin, we wound’t know what we were eating. and we would have probably paid 5x more. he was the negotiator…
if you were in Bali, you probably would have bumped into us Hawaii boys because we were everywhere! haha.
the first time i went to Bali and ate with my hand, i was culture shocked. now, i love to eat with my hand because you can mix up the food better and it also tastes better. just please wash your hands before you try this.
fresh clams right out of the harbor in front. so good!
Yasin was the happiest because he told me this kind of food is his favorite. now it’s ours too!
we had some very fun and interesting conversations during this trip. right after we took this photo, our conversation turned into politics. and once the subject of Donald Trump came up, we almost got into a fight. not with other guys, but within ourselves. haha… thanks Donald Trump for bringing out the fire in the boys…
my biggest highlight was foiling with Tony. we did it in Australia, now in Bali, and who knows where it’s going to be next. we are the 2 youngest kids on the WCT tour. thank you Seth. haha!
i learned a lot about traveling with a foil. the excess baggage charge for a surfboard is $175, and the excess baggage charge for the foil is $175. i would have had a heart attack paying $350 for excess fees. but foiling is different. you pay more, play more, and live life more. no money can buy the freedom and happiness we’re getting from this high. it’s called Foiling Addiction!
