it’s been a pleasure seeing this wonderful family every year for many years. and it’s been so cool watching the kids grow up so fast. say hello to the happy Aida-san family!
Yuuki-kun is still 15 years old but as tall as a man! so stoked to see him surfing so good backside!
Rio-kun is 11 years old i think? getting older and getting braver.
and turning right in front of the cameraman. Paul Teruya shot these beautiful photos. as for me, i paddled out with my gopro and it was filled with water. haha. another $400 wasted…
so lucky Paul was there to capture the magical moments.
and this photo is freaking magical!
i took the boys out to the main peak at Bowls and they were catching sets. and they weren’t scared at all! good job boys!
i just love teaching kids how to enjoy the ocean. and i just love enjoying the ocean with the kids. oh, when my gopro filled up with water, Yuuki-kun was laughing. so was i. it’s so weird because the last time i surfed with them, somebody stole my camera from my car before i could upload the photos. so those photos were lost too. but thankfully, Paul captured that days rides too. so weird huh?
thank you again to the Aida-san family for the wonderful years of surfing!!! hope to see you guys again!

Women History Month: Celebrating Women in Hawaii
i surfed with the kids at Bowls this morning. super perfect and super fun. then i foiled Diamond Head this afternoon. super perfect and super fun. i counted only 9 surfers at Bowls this morning, and i counted over a hundred at Diamond Head this afternoon. everybody loving this early Summer South swell!
but before i get back to today, i was watching the news last night and seen a special about Women in Hawaii. and guess who was on it??? yup, my sister Tammy Moniz! i was so surprised!
had a couple of our family photos. my older sister is Tammy, my older brother is Mason, and my younger brother is Davis. us 3 boys were freaking crazy kids with matching t-shirts!!! haha…
but my sister was right, all we had was each other and i didn’t realize that until i grew up. my sister was the bond that kept us all together. if it wasn’t for her, who knows were we would all be today…
when she introduced me to her boyfriend Tony Moniz, i was 19 years old. that was the turning point in my life. if it wasn’t for him too, i don’t know where i would be today. i get scared even thinking about it…
and yup, my sister still can surf! before Kelia was the Queen of Waikiki, my sister was the Queen of Waikiki. i use to love surfing with her out there.
it’s amazing how strong this family is. like i tell all my friends, “if you mess with one, you mess with all.” and me too. and hundreds of others too. and like Megan who is Kelia’s best friend says, “Kelia is the craziest. you don’t want to mess with the family.” haha..
i can’t tell you how proud i am to be these guys and girls Uncle. each and every Moniz has a special place in my heart. i use to play with them all the time when they were babies and when they wouldn’t listen, i would send them home. haha.
i’m not going to lie, i teared up when i seen Isaiah hugging his Mom and telling her “i love you.” and when i see that in person which i see a lot, i still tear up till this day. this is real love…
anyway, please take the time to watch this special on my Sister. i’m so proud of her and what she’s accomplished in her life. not too many people know she’s my sister because she’s so soft spoken and loving, and i’m loud and such a troublemaker. haha. so when people find out, they can’t believe it. neither can i. haha… good job Sis!
