Eating Hawaii: Burgers and Things

meet the once a year surfer Fujimoto-san. only surfing when he comes to Hawaii and it amazes me how good he’s getting. he must be dreaming of this day all year long. haha.

seen a new face in the lineup at Rockpiles today. the smallest turtle i’ve ever seen out there.

Freedom! when you’re confident and cool, you can feel the freedom surfing gives you.

went back to the beach and played with Kaito-kun. the cutest 3 year old kid!

i can’t wait to take this kid surfing next year. he’s going to be so stoked!

Father and son. this is family… it’s so crazy that i knew Kaito-kun when he was still in his Mommy’s stomach. time sure goes by so fast.

keep on practicing Kaito-kun! your day will come, and when it does, your life will be so exciting like your Papa’s.

Fujimoto-san wanted to eat at Burgers and Things. i haven’t been there before so i was equally excited.

very interesting little hamburger shop.

and very delicious juicy burger. this was amazing!

and the fried potatoes was the best i’ve ever eaten before. so fresh and so tasty.

i’m so happy to see this beautiful family every year. thank you Fujimoto-san for the amazing morning.

see you guys again next year!

by the way, here is the address for Burgers and Things: 1991 Pauoa Rd, Honolulu, HI 96813

Chilli Pepper Tuna Collar

i pull up to Kekoa’s house after a long day in the sun. looked at the smoker to see what was getting smoked.

omg, look at these ahi kama provided by Red Sea Ocean Adventures.

Toda-san was first on the appetizer table. and he was the last too. i couldn’t count how many times he went for extras. haha.

then Kekoa and Mrs. Nakamoto in the kitchen cooking dinner.

i haven’t had a gathering like this in a very long time. such special people in one room sharing stories and laughter. this is what Hawaii is all about.

i went up to the dinner table 3x. i couldn’t stop eating because it was so good!

then Kekoa’s bar selection. amazing alcohol as i started off with some whisky.

i just love these ball ice. made me miss a very special person…

the dinner table was busy all night. i can’t believe how much we ate.

Papa Nakamoto cut up shiso and buried under it was red hot Hawaiian chili peppers. i didn’t know how one snuck into my somen but when i ate the whole thing, my mouth was on fire! i couldn’t taste anything after that.

Papa Crow is the best gyotaku artist in Hawaii. if you catch your special fish, he will print it for you so will never forget it. i still have my big kumu framed in my house.

after food, beer, whisky, vodka, sake, and dessert, it was time to make my journey home. thank you Kekoa for the invite to your wonderful house and BBQ. it’s always so nice to see you all so healthy and happy.
