yesterday, i hike back down the mountain. i’m super tired, want to take a nap, but then i get a text from my sister “Josh is in the quarter finals surfing soon in Martinique.” what? where is Martinique? so i click the link and watch Joshua totally dominate his heat. he was ripping so hard i actually felt sorry for the other competitor. just looked unbeatable. i have no idea where Martinique is??? anyway, yesterday was yesterday, today is today. Joshua is in the semifinals surfing soon. i’m up in bed at 5:30am waiting for his heat. sleeping in a dorm with 14 other backpackers in my room. trying to be quiet but if Joshua wins his heat, i’ll be yelling for sure. haha.
i’m so proud of this kid! representing hawaii in an awesome way. GO JOSHUA!

Hiking Guatemala: Bucket List
gosh, the mountains here are cool! so green, so steep, and so challenging.
and you just never know who you will bump into with a gun. good guy or bad guy? luckily these were good guys.
i shared a tent with 6 people from israel. we had a great talk and i learned a lot about israel. these guys and girls just got finished serving their mandatory 3 years of military training. everybody in israel has to do it.
imagine feeling the earth shaking, then seconds later, you hear a loud BANG, then the volcano erupts. this happened every 40 minutes or so. scary, but amazing! then at night, the freaking red lava exploding out of the volcano! it was crazy!!!
i had the most awesome experience. something i want to share with everybody, but i’m not hiking up there again as long as i live. it’s a one time thing and if you haven’t done it yet, you better put this one on your bucket list. you won’t regret it! once again, the most amazing thing i’ve ever done or seen!!!
Josh Moniz semifinals tomorrow!!!
2am tomorrow Hawaii time so 9pm tonight Japan time! Go-Josh!!!
