had an awesome day with this kid today. Kai-san is from fukushima and is a 23 year old college student attending the Tokyo University of Science. his hometown and house was only 4km away from the fukushima nuclear plant. things have changed ever since as he will probably never ever get to return home. but he’s determined to graduate from college next year and return back to fukushima to work. it was his first surf session today and i could tell he was nervous.
but after a few tries, he got the basics down and surfed good all day long. we surfed for so long this morning and i couldn’t believe how much energy this kid had.
if you surf with me, it’s like boot camp so we tend to get hungry. Kai-san wanted to eat steak so i took him to eat the biggest steak lunch on the island.
i ate the daily special “oxtail stew.” so good!
then killed some time checking out the most famous tree in hawaii. pretty huge!
then we went for round 2. the waves were perfect all day long again. some head high sets and i got Kai-san into a few. first time surfer catching head high waves? haha. after that, we ate some sweet shave ice, and i bet he’s sleeping pretty good right now. such a good kid!
oh, we also went to stop by the university of hawaii too. as we were leaving, we saw this girl flying down the hill with her skateboard. she was wearing a dress, shoes, and a backpack. so cool!
then as we were passing by, she threw us a shaka! haha. what a cool chick! i bet you she surfs. gosh, i love hawaii!!!
Surf, Eat, Sleep, Surf, Eat, Skate!
Snorkeling Tour: Abunai Hawaii
i was about to sleep at 9pm when i get a call from one of these 2 young girls. “Kirby-san, we are lost. how do you get to The Health Cove?” what??? where are you? “We are in Kapahulu.” what??? OMG, wait right there!!! i speed down to pick them up, throw them in my car, and scold both of them. “hey, it’s so dangerous here at night! what are you doing!!!” they were walking up and down streets in kapahulu lost. for most japanese, they don’t know how dangerous it is here at night. it’s very very dangerous for 2 young girls to be walking around looking lost. i scold them again, we go to the Health Bar to eat an acai bowl, then i drive them back to their hotel in waikiki. as we were driving along the zoo, it was pitch dark and even i wouldn’t want to walk around there at night. i dropped them off in front of their hotel and told them never to leave at night again. they told me i was like their Papa. i told them “if i was your Papa, i would send you both back to japan right now! so you are lucky i’m not your Papa.”
Urara-chan surfed so well!
Sanae-chan did so well too. can’t believe it was their first time surfing.
i’m pretty stoked with my secret snorkeling spot. lots of fish and you just don’t know what will swim by. everyday is different. and the coolest thing is that nobody goes there.
underwater is where i love to be. peace and quiet!
the girls probably freaking out on things.
check out the 5 sharks hanging out at home. i think it’s funny how people think there are no sharks in waikiki. hey world, there are sharks everywhere!!!
if i knew these girls a little better, i would have woke up the sharks and when they came out, these girls would have started freaking out. but no, i’m a nice guy. maybe next time? haha.
see the 2 turtles?
no, i’m not only a surfing instructor. i teach diving, i teach nature, and i teach life. and now, i’m officially these 2 girls Hawaii Papa. haha!
