Mommy and Baby Whale

IMG_2068
there was a mom and baby whale outside diamond head yesterday. they came pretty close to the boat. so close that you can see the texture in the skin.

and baby hanging out next to mom. so cute.

passing by bowls on the way back from surfing a secret spot all to ourselves was funny. there were about 30 surfers out.

this girl always sits in the right place and catches the perfect inside ones that line up all the way to the wall.

this is called “dropping in.” if this was a contest, the girl in the front would be penalized. if this was the north shore, this girl will get yelled at. and if this girl was a boy, he might get beaten up. i’ve seen it many of times.
the south swells continue…

Wax on, Wax off!

did you ever watch the movie “Karate Kid?” remember the sensei teaching his student “wax on, wax off” over and over. well, that’s what i did for 3 hours this morning. most of the time breathing through a snorkel. first washed the truck after all this rain we’ve been having. kind of a big job already. then went to wash Mayuki. i washed her inside, then took her outside ala moana, put on my mask and snorkel, and washed and scrubbed the whole boat. imagine being upside down under the water holding your breath scrubbing and scrubbing a pretty big boat. i was so tired after. then i paddled out to bowls and caught a couple of waves with 20 other hungry surfers.

it was only 9:30am and i felt like i needed a nap. but my good friends coming to town to surf so i was excited. and yes, it was a perfect hot summer day to go surfing!

Yumie, Takuya, and Misa wanted to go whale watching so i told them to bring their boards just in case. and good thing they did because the waves were going off!

Go-Naminori Official Bloggers Yumie and Hayato. two wonderful friends ever since the start. everybody asking me if this is my boat. i answer “no, it’s a very generous friends boat. i just help him maintain it and enjoy it.” her name is Mayuki.

so happy to surf with Yumie. she’s always smiling and having so much fun. sometimes i forget that she can’t hear me. she has to read my lips and that is talent because my lips move really fast!

i’ve known Misa for 10 years. i use to push her into waves back then and now she’s bodyboarding super good!
