did you ever watch the movie “Karate Kid?” remember the sensei teaching his student “wax on, wax off” over and over. well, that’s what i did for 3 hours this morning. most of the time breathing through a snorkel. first washed the truck after all this rain we’ve been having. kind of a big job already. then went to wash Mayuki. i washed her inside, then took her outside ala moana, put on my mask and snorkel, and washed and scrubbed the whole boat. imagine being upside down under the water holding your breath scrubbing and scrubbing a pretty big boat. i was so tired after. then i paddled out to bowls and caught a couple of waves with 20 other hungry surfers.
it was only 9:30am and i felt like i needed a nap. but my good friends coming to town to surf so i was excited. and yes, it was a perfect hot summer day to go surfing!
Yumie, Takuya, and Misa wanted to go whale watching so i told them to bring their boards just in case. and good thing they did because the waves were going off!
Go-Naminori Official Bloggers Yumie and Hayato. two wonderful friends ever since the start. everybody asking me if this is my boat. i answer “no, it’s a very generous friends boat. i just help him maintain it and enjoy it.” her name is Mayuki.
from the crazy north shore crowds to just us surfing and enjoying the peaceful fun waves in town. my secret spot once again making my friends very happy.
us 4 and that’s it. it was such a different vibe from yesterday’s backdoor session, and today’s bowls session. i think i like it all.
we are Go-Naminori!
Takuya surfs really good! it was the first time i seen him surf and i was impressed!
left or right is all good! Yumie choosing the left.
so happy to surf with Yumie. she’s always smiling and having so much fun. sometimes i forget that she can’t hear me. she has to read my lips and that is talent because my lips move really fast!
i’ve known Misa for 10 years. i use to push her into waves back then and now she’s bodyboarding super good!
and Hayato enjoying the island lifestyle he loves.
we came in at 1pm and you should have seen the whales we passed. i better go download the photos i took off my other camera. have a wonderful evening and i want to thank all my friends for all the special moments!
Wax on, Wax off!
North or South, Big or Small!
it’s so weird how i feel about surfing recently. i use to be so happy to get big barrels and sad when i couldn’t. now, i feel happy just to ride a wave. on any board, just riding a wave is so fun. and when you ride waves with friends, it doesn’t matter to me anymore. so after getting barreled at backdoor yesterday, i paddled out on a longboard to bowls. the waves were good, not too crowded, sunny, and just pure fun!
and to share surfing with people who never surfed before and to see them transforming into surfers is awesome. the body, mind, soul, and smile is totally different in and out of the water. surfing is just so amazing.
Inaida-san’s been surfing really good recently. just so much more confidence in the ocean than before. he knows the tides, currents, winds, swell direction, and a lot more. my goal is to get Inaida-san in the barrel!
and Yuki-san taking steps. everybody who sees her surfing tells me “wow, she got really good so fast!” yeah, i know.
happy smile!
then Katsura-san’s been surfing so good too. just super energetic and very happy. always a good vibe. and the past 2 nights Katsura-san worked on my shoulders. now i feel much more better. magic hands!
like i said, i’m happy surfing a short board in a huge barrel, or happy surfing a long board on a chest high wave. getting older has taught me that the most important thing is to enjoy what you have. i really appreciate having good boards, good waves, and good friends.
