Travel Cambodia Day 3

the orphanage here provides HIV medicine for a thousand kids. not only for the 250 kids living here, but provides for other kids in other areas living with HIV. NHCC opened up in 2006 and almost everything is operated off donations.

people from all over the world sending money, food, clothing, solar, and lots of love. i was happy to see a truck drop off some food for the kids yesterday.
photo 3
seems like a lot, but it takes $14,000/month to keep the kids healthy with 3 meals/day.
photo 2
and the cooks are also so happy receiving money or food that will be put into good use.

listen to this cool story. President Clinton passed through here in 2006. at that time, a little 3 month boy named Basil just arrived here. he had HIV and was abandoned on the streets hanging on to his life. Kathy and John took him in and started Basil on the HIV medication making him the youngest child to ever to be on that medication. President Clinton got attached to Basil and now calls him “My Boy.” Chelsea Clinton recently stopped by to see how he was doing. ever since 2006, President Clinton’s foundation donated all the medication for all the kids. and if you add that up, that is hundreds of thousands of dollars per year.

Mr. President Clinton, Basil is fine right now. thanks to yourself, Kathy, John, and all the love from all around the world, Basil is living a normal child’s lifestyle. what a special kid!

before i came, i was a stranger. now, i’m a friend.
photo 1
i woke up at 4am this morning. went out to gaze at the stars, then went to join the kids for breakfast. this is 5:30am and very very cold.
photo 3
these kids wake up early and don’t waste a minute of their young lives.

then i went to pick up 9 year old Kalyan to walk her to her class. this little girl won’t let go of my hand. i think i’m going to ask John and Kathy if i can take her back to hawaii with me. she is sooo cute!
photo 5
then i passed by the library and Davis was in there reading books to his 1st grade class.
ok, i’ve been here only for 3 days and i can feel myself getting so attached to these kids. they can’t speak my language, i can’t speak theirs. but the connection is there. i’m taking a lot of photos and some video clips so hopefully get something going soon. i just hate to be in my room on my computer because i’d rather be out playing with the kids. have a wonderful day!

Breakfast time: 5:30am

Wake up early!
Good boys!

The City of Angels

this is day 2 for me and as i sit in my mosquito net looking at the photos i took so far, i get lost for words when i look at the kids smiles. to think that most of these kids wouldn’t have survived this long if they didn’t cross the path of two angels John and Kathy is unbearable. i will get into full detail about this whole operation soon and i will also give you full details on how to become a volunteer. i’m just soaking in more information and experiences because i know there will be many people i know coming here for sure. even a day here will change your life. when i was young, i never believed in angels. but for the past few years, i’ve been meeting so many angels and there are hundreds right here at NHCC.

that last swell that hit hawaii had the biggest buoy readings i’ve ever seen since the internet came out. it’s a bummer the winds were from the wrong direction because the Eddie Aikau at Waimea Bay would have been on for sure. oh well, now we probably have to wait for another 5 years.

this is where breakfast, lunch, and dinner are served here.

and this is the kitchen. very simple, very economical, and very delicious!

when ever i see these kids eating such healthy food, i think about the hard work and dedication John and Kathy have put into the NHCC.

walking in the local meat market was a great experience. seeing body parts of all kinds of animals was kind of cool. but when i came across the dog section, i almost threw up. i took some photos but not sure if i want to show them to you. i don’t want to start a controversy. haha.
last day for me here as i’ll head back to the city tomorrow, do some sightseeing for a day, enjoy the culture, then jump on 3 flights back to hawaii. many more stories to come so stay tuned.
