Moniz Brothers Shine at Triple Crown
i arrive in honolulu, i check to see if the contest is on. why? because my 3 nephews are in the prestigious triple crown of surfing. then there it is on the internet streaming live, Josh Moniz getting ready for his first round heat. perfect timing!!!
this kid goes out and has a super hard heat. yeah, 6X triple crown champion and 1X world champion Sunny Garcia in the same heat. but no, Josh isn’t intimidated by the champion as he beats Sunny and advances to the next round.
they were calling this a major upset but i don’t think so. Josh is surfing like a champion and i’m sure he will beat a lot more champions. speed turn!
then little brother Seth Moniz in the next heat. seth surfing against top world professional surfers but no nerves for him too. he wins his heat easily and advances to round 2.
see the right arm in the water? Seth stalling and slowing down so he can get position in a huge barrel to come. perfect technique! i was so stoked to see him standing tall in a huge barrel at sunset beach.
1st place Seth Moniz now in the international media making his mark here in his first triple crown ever. 16 years old and taking down world tour competitors.
and yes, this kid in the winners circle and better get use to having interviews. so proud of these kids.
and yes, proud parents Tony and Tammy Moniz always on the beach supporting the kids. i bet Tammy is happy? look at her smile. haha.
contest might continue tomorrow but if not, a huge swell for friday. i’m so happy to be back in hawaii getting back to my normal life. can’t wait till tomorrow comes!
