For Sale: Rare Hawaiian Sunrise Shells

sunrise shells are very rare and very hard to find. only found in hawaii and if you are lucky enough to find one, it’s like winning a lottery. i’ve been looking for 20 years and never found one. then a month ago, my shell collector friend called me to go for a dive. i found my first one, and since then, i’ve been too busy to go again. i will call my friend “he” because there are actually sunrise shell wars here on oahu. it’s a million dollar business so have to keep things low! anyway, i went to his office to check out his sunrise shell collection. OMG! so many nice ones worth thousands of dollars! he’s the type to hold on to things forever but i talked him into letting a few go. so he told me i could sell it for him and that’s what i’m going to do.

my friend only has top Grade A shells. isn’t his collection so beautiful?

if you go to stores on oahu, a sunrise shell will cost anywhere from $60-$2,000 depending on quality. these 3 are Grade A quality shells. he told me $130 for the one on the left. $110 for the one in the middle, and $100 for the one on the right. that’s rock bottom prices for shells like this. add $5 for shipping and i’ll send it to you where ever you are in the world.

and once i have some more time, i’m going to look for my own sunrise shells and become my own millionaire!

i always carry my camera with me on trips. but when the waves are good, i usually choose to surf instead. so i hand my camera to somebody and they can play with it. it’s actually pretty fun shooting with top of the line equipment and seeing the results. Kimura-san turned fisherman to cameraman. check out his photos from taiwan.

i like the localism in taiwan. everybody is so nice and friendly.

stay behind the yellow line. it’s safer.

this is one of the coolest shots Kimura-san took. i’m down on the beach read to jump in. then he zooms back to get the nuclear plant in the background. yeah, this is taiwan’s version of fukushima. i was actually a little nervous surfing right out in front. nuclear scares the shit out of me.

Keith at home.

Kimura-san missed Keith’s best wave. bummer. but the cool thing about this trip was actually surfing with Keith. he surfs so good and has a really smooth style. and being a super nice guy makes him an all around perfect example of how a surfer should be.

hey Kimura-san, great job on the photos! i’m super happy you documented such a great time that morning. just hanging out with the locals and enjoying the simple life was so relaxing. it was just the vacation i was looking for. we will go back right? eat good food, surf good waves, and sing karaoke all night! haha.
