Kendo is the modern day equivalent of Japanese sword fighting to classical or Olympic fencing. Equipment consists of Keikogi, Hakama, Tenugui, Bogu, Shinai, and Bokken. why am i talking about kendo now?
i just found out that aN elementary school in ishinomaki lost all their equipment on that fatal tsunami day, including their kendo wear. it was washed away with the wave. without it, the kids can’t practice, without it, the kids can’t enter tournaments, and without it, the kids will lose thousands of years of tradition. WE ARE ONE is here for reasons like this. all they need is 2 sets of equipment and the tradition can continue. it cost 40,000 yen/each so 80,000 for 2 or about $1000 USD. before we go out and buy it for the school, i had a idea. for the past 4 months, a lot of people, including companies have come up to me and asked how they can donate hand to hand. well, here’s your chance. you can pay for it, you can write it off, and you can do a great thing hand to hand. in exchange, i will send you the receipt, i will take a photo of us presenting it to the school, and i will respect you for the rest of my life. volunteers aren’t around anymore, the red cross money is no where to be seen, and the news has forgotten all about japan. it’s my duty to spread the word, help japan, and to give others a chance. so if your interested in doing a wonderful thing, please don’t hesitate to let me know. i’m leaving in a few days and heard a big typhoon is heading straight for japan. i don’t give a shit about the waves, all i care about is everything will be ok in tohoku. they don’t need any more hardships then they already have.
