today they had the trials for the pipeline bodyboard championship contest that will start feb. 15th on the north shore. times are tough these days so not all the competitors have a rent a car. the contest director chartered a school bus and brought the competitors from the north shore all the way to sandy beach. 1.5 hour ride and the bus was FULL!!!

i haven’t seen so many whales in my life. they were all over the place out at sandy’s. some coming in pretty close. it was a contest watch, and a whale watching day!

can you believe that the trials for pipe is happening on these waves? the top 10 men and top 3 women today move on into the prestigious pipeline event!
*ended up surfing sandy’s. full point was 3’and fun! good to see some of the old school boys out there. gosh, surfing never dies….
