Valley of the Temples: History, Power, and Peace….

good evening. another windy day but great day to get things done. i washed my car, packed some boards, looked for my boat trip guns online, made some international calls and emails, and took a much needed nap. it’s already march 1st and a time for me to get ready for a long year of traveling, traveling, and traveling. i have trips lined up and i can’t wait to start. but before that, i still want to get barreled and know that the epic days are sure to come. wanted to say hello to taro ishizeki here in hawaii. taro-san, go surf sandy’s. wanted to say hello to aki-san for the information on that secret spot in japan that i will surely someday visit. and thanks to the rest of you who sent emails about that spot. maybe we can all surf it together someday. that would be cool. and thanks to keito-san for the kind comment about my comment. “surfing is about having fun” and i’m glad you feel the same way. don’t be afraid to have fun what ever your doing. surfing is about having fun, and life is about having fun too. be happy, think positive, and good things will happen. that, i know…. and to the rest of you who sent comments, thanks for the support and keep them coming because that’s what keeps me going. mahalo…

i went up to the VALLEY OF THE TEMPLES on the windward side this morning to visit my grandma. this place is so magical. you can feel the history, the power, and the peace as soon as you drive up the hill….

the view is breathtaking…

a lot of people don’t know this but there is a temple way in the back. japanese history right in hawaii…

this was built a long time ago for the first japanese that immigrated to hawaii from japan. the VALLEY OF THE TEMPLES is a resting place for most 1st and 2nd generation american/japanese. from okinawa, kumamoto, hiroshima, nagasaki, and other places roots are all resting here….

i learned something today. i learned that our ancestors all made plans when they past away to rest in such a magical place here in hawaii. it’s kind of hard to explain what i felt today. but like i said before, i felt the history, i felt the power, and i felt the peace. it’s really comforting to know that my grandma is resting in such an awesome place. a place where i wouldn’t mind ending up too…

Yoko Furuichi- Mystery Girl…

good morning. best bet for surfing is probably sandy beach again. nothing else to talk about the surf so let’s talk about something else, kelly slater and yoko furuichi….

kelly slater is riding a 5’4 this time. what’s next? kelly slater riding a skateboard in the water? only superman can do that, and kelly is superman. if he wins the contest on the 5’4, another 10,000 surfboards will be shaped the next day. thank you kelly slater for saving our surfboard industry….

yoko furuichi has been doing a blog on go-naminori for the past 2 years or so. i’ve been getting so many emails asking about her and so many friends here in hawaii asking about her too. to tell you the truth, i didn’t know too much about yoko myself. that’s why i always thought of her as “the mystery girl.” i met yoko for the first time a year ago in japan. it was weird because i knew so much about her through her blog, but then again, i didn’t know the real yoko. but now that i know the real yoko, i’ll tell a little about her. she’s a pro longboarder in japan that is beautiful, sweet, energetic, and so fun to be around. i guess it’s her positive thinking and energy that makes her the great person she is. there’s a lot more about her but that’s still a mystery. read her blog and try to figure it out….

i shot her one evening in town. i snapped 298 photos that day and all of them are keepers. yoko’s so photogenic that she looks good in any photo at any angle. makes a photographers job really easy. stay tuned on go-naminori for more photos. anyway, yoko’s off to australia for a longboard contest, then back to japan for the start of the JPSA season. this young, talented, and energetic girl has what it takes to make it to the top. watch out for this upcoming japanese surfer girl…
